Reviews by Wood Furnace Series

Corporate History

Northland Distributing & Manufacturing started in 1996 by selling outdoor wood furnaces that were produced by different companies. Eventually, the company came to believe that they could make a better furnace and they began to market their own furnace. With headquarters in International Falls, Minnesota, (which owns the trademark for the term “The icebox of the nation,”) the company was able to develop and test their Crown Royal products in temperatures as low as -40° F during the winter.

Northland Distributing went out of business in 2011. Greentech Manufacturing purchased and currently manufactures Crown Royal furnaces.

Product Lines

Crown Royal outdoor furnaces are constructed out of 10-gauge 409 AL Titanium enhanced stainless steel for excellent corrosion resistance and heat transfer. All Crown Royal Stoves undergo a 24 hour pressure test after final assembly.

Product lines include the Pristine gasification series, the Shaker Grate series, the Multi Pass series, the Indoor series and the Biomass series.

The Pristine line consists of three gasification outdoor wood furnace models which are EPA Phase 2 qualified and produce very low emissions while supplying improved efficiency ratings. There are four models of outdoor coal burning furnaces equipped with shaker grates and designed to heat areas ranging from 2,000 to 20,000 square feet. Indoor coal furnaces are available in three models designed to heat areas from 2,000 to 10,000 square feet. These furnaces are made to be located in a building other than primary living quarters, such as garages, shops and barns.

The Multi Pass series is built with a triple pass heat exchanger for higher efficiency and includes shaker grates and a removable ash pan.

The Biomass series is a commercial system with a storage bin and an automated feed mechanism. It is designed to burn multiple fuels.

Greentech Manufacturing warrants its furnaces to be free of defects in material and workmanship for 20 years to the original owner. Electrical components, doors and ash pan gaskets are covered by a 1-year warranty, and cast iron rocker grates have a 5-year warranty.

"Switching over"

We purchased our first Crown Royal Stove 2 years ago when our Woodmaster stove leaked after having it for 10 years. We put the Crown Royal at the house and welded the Woodmaster and put at our shop. This year the Woodmaster had more leaks – too many to repair. After researching stoves found Crown Royal to be the better product for the money as we have had no issues with the first purchased one.

Our new Crown Royal Stove solved many issues we were having with heating our home. No more worries about the indoor chimney. The living room has more space and less ash and mess. Plus the temperature is equally warm in all rooms, without us having to spend a lot on oil.

"Good but Could be better"

Let me start by saying it keeps the house warmer than the oil furance, and we save a lot on heating compared to the price of oil. In just a couple of years of having it, it paid for it's self. The down side of it is we had a number of break downs along the way, leaks, mechanical problems, things had to be welded, a new door had to be replaced, the ash tray has just about had it. You wanted a review and I wrote one, maybe not to your liking but is what it is. The furance is great when it is working, and when it is not it's not a good thing at all. When we got our furance two of our neighbors wanted to get there's the following year, well needless to say when they seen the problems we had the first year, they no longer wanted anything to do with that. To give a rating all things considered I'm going with 2.
