Overview of the Elite
The Empyre Elite is a discontinued wood gasification boiler with up to 89% efficiency. The Empyre Elite was a wood/electric hybrid available in two models, the 100 and 200, with a heat output of up to 225,000 BTU/hr and a water capacity of up to 112 gallons. The unit featured smoke-free combustion and was EPA White Tag qualified. An extra large loading door made loading the unit easy, and an inward-swinging exhaust curtain kept combustion gases from escaping when the door was opened. The unit's refractory fire brick lining and insulated exterior provided optimal heat retention and efficiency.

"Piece of Junk!!"
This will be our third winter with this boiler and we are going to have to shut it down. Our interior of the unit was made with stainless steel. Do not buy a stainless steel one!!!! They do not expand and contract well causing them to crack and leak.We have had ours replaced after first year, second one has cracked in 9 places, had to be taken apart and welded....more $$$. Only into the cold part of fall this year, used it for 3 weeks and cracked again. We are in debt for this thing and it is junk! It also plugs up all the time, like I said, Junk, junk, junk.

"This stove is junk. After 2 years the firebox had water coming out. Company went out of business. No warranty."
$10.000 dollars. What do I do about the warranty? This is a real problem. I am sure I am not the only one out there. This company should really do something about this. The government shouldn't allow things like this to happen to the customer. They should step in and do something about companies closing their doors and avoiding warranties that are not even two years old. I would really like a response on this. It's not fair that this company should be allowed to do this.

I've owned my Elite XT 200 for 1.5 years. At the 1 year mark it was rotted beyond repair. I've tried contacting them with no luck. Their number has been disconnected with no way of reaching anyone. If anyone has a way of contacting anyone there please let me know what I need to do to get in touch with someone. I will never buy this product again! Beware people, stay away from these.

"Leaking exchanger tubes"
My Elite XT-100 is a warranty unit given to me by Pro-Fab because my original purchase rotted out beyond repair in less than two heating seasons. The new unit was amazing! The new design exceeded our expectations. The firebox is still shining like new. Every Saturday I clean any residual creosote that may be clinging to the sides of the firebox and brush the exchanger tubes. In springtime, I remove all firebrick and super clean the whole inside of the unit, replacing any cracked brick as needed and coat the tubes with oil. Now just at the end of my third season, the boiler tubes are starting to leak! I will be contacting them about this immediately. I will never by another outdoor wood burner again after these terrible experiences. After 5 years this investment and the work of cutting and splitting, I did not even break even on savings versus the propane heat that I was replacing.

I have had the Empyre Elite 100 for three years now and have had nothing but trouble. I have replaced the temperature limit five times. The heat exchanger that was sold to me was so undersized that I had to buy the right one to make it work. Now I am having the same trouble everyone else is having, it leaks and nobody wants to honor their product. I would not recommend this product or company to anyone. I have contacted the attorney general's office about them. I want answers.
Other Elite Reviews
In an older post on hearth.com, a homeowner asked if anyone had ever heard of the Empyre Elite. Most replies were from people who'd never heard of it, but a couple of responses were positive, saying that it is a good unit. There is another post on the same site from a homeowner who developed a leak in his unit due to corrosion after two years.
The warranty for the Empyre Elite Series wood furnace is comprised of the following:
- 10-year limited warranty on the firebox and water jacket, pro-rated after the 2nd year
- 2-year parts warranty
- 1-year labor warranty
