Overview of the E-Classic

The Central Boiler E-Classic is an outdoor wood gasification furnace. The E-Classic features a three-stage combustion process, providing combustion efficiencies near 100%. A FireStar electronic controller allows easy operation of the furnace, and an automatic gas-fired wood ignition automatically relights the wood if the fire goes out for an extended period. It features a large firebox for longer burn times and a triple insulated firebox door holds the heat to increase efficiency. An insulated chimney exits the rear of the furnace, reducing heat loss and eliminating condensation. Base models of the E-Classic start at $5,490, though prices will vary depending on shipping and options.

"Junk"
Very overrated stove, don't be fooled by the 25-year warranty. I bought the E-Classic in 2010 and two years later the insides where cracking at the air chambers. I was told they had a repair kit for it but I was responsible for having a welder come and cut out the inside of the stove and replace it with the kit at my cost. Also had to replace the computer board because it went bad. Now the bypass handle has come apart inside the stove and in order to fix you have to take apart the stoves outer shell, all at my cost for repair. Would not recommend a Central Boiler to anyone, the warranty is a joke, just to get you to buy their product and I'm very disappointed.

Wood burner itself works fine but the installer was very unqualified. Central Boiler itself does not want to hear any of your problems or try to work with you. If you're smart, go with another company and stay away from this company. We actually had to take the installer to court and won the case but Central Boiler still would not back their products.

"Central Boiler sucks"
After spending in excess of $10,000 to purchase the boiler, the firebox began to leak within 5 years of use. I was told by my local dealer that his personal exact model began to leak as well and that Central Boiler would refurbish and "upgrade" the firebox design so that the air channels could be accessed and cleaned for a mere $3000. I contacted Central Boiler and was told that the warranty didn't apply to corrosion. My local dealer agrees that in five more years to expect the same leak, and to expect to pay the $6000 then. I would never recommend or buy again.

"Junk, junk, junk"
We purchased the E-Classic 2450 installed in November of 2014 to replace an existing older Mahoning. The problems began immediately! The fire would constantly go out, almost daily! Ashes were removed weekly with full ash clean out every 10-14 days. The fire box and door were scraped daily. After 14 months the firebox sprung a leak that put the fire out! It was in the front corner where the door wall met the side panel. The welder said the whole thing was junk and refused to repair it saying it would only leak again around the weld. The dealer took his sweet time coming to get it to send back to Central Boiler for the so-called warranty replacement of the firebox. We were without heat in the months of March and April in upstate New York. Seriously people, 14 months of use and it is junk! Stay away from these boilers! They are very high, daily maintenance, constant headache, and the company will blame you for its failure. Central Boiler says we didn't clean it well enough. Really? The firebox was emptied and scraped leaving us without heat in the dead of winter (no hot water either) every 2 weeks. Standing out in the snowfall cleaning the boiler because the fire went out again is not our idea of a good time! Stay away! Far far away! We are seeking legal counsel and hoping for class action.

" Unfavorable review of the E-Classic"
I visited the E-Classic dealer and was sold on buying what sounded like a real good way to heat my house. The Classic was dumped off one night about dark and this was the extent of my dealer's help. Have had the furnace for three years and now it is a garbage burner in my back yard. A $15,000 garbage burner that Central Boiler and my so-called dealer should be proud of. There has to be a place in Hell for companies like this that continue to advertise in magazines that cater to the older generation and then put out such a terrible product.

"E-Classic performs very well"
We have operated an E-Classic 2300 model for 6 winters and are very happy with Central Boiler. We heat a large house and supply hot water. It's nice for our family to keep the house as warm as we want without thinking about a heating bill. Our family really appreciates the seemingly endless supply of hot water. The 2300 is simple and easy to maintain, but the owner's manual must be read and followed.

"E Classic 2400 leaks"
I purchased an Central Boiler E-Classic 2400 in 2013. Following the company's guidelines on operation it did everything as advertised performance-wise. I am currently heating 4000 square feet plus using the water heater attachment. My 3 year average wood use is at 6 cords and I use high quality dry covered wood. I also followed all water quality guidelines using only Central Boiler products and provided my records to the dealer and Central Boiler. During the shutdown and firebox cleaning after 3rd season I discovered a leak coming from an air channel on the lower right side. The leak looks to be an inaccessible area to repair and the dealer wants to ship it back for repair. So far I'm told my out of pocket may be around $500 shipping. Central Boiler will inspect and report what repairs they will cover. I would hope they cover the repair as this failure is only 3 years into their limited 25-year warranty. So far 2 weeks after reporting the leak to my dealer and Central Boiler my unit is still hooked up and sitting home. The only response I've gotten is conformation the pictures and records I sent were received and Central Boiler wants me to refer all issues to the dealer. I will try to keep this post updated to let future buyers know what to expect from Central Boiler on their warranty.

Love our Central Boiler. Saves us so much money in propane. We even ran a line to heat our pool. Easy to install, my husband helped the installer and finished it in no time. As long as you're able to keep it filled with wood once a day you'll save money, especially if you heat with propane.

"Great boiler, burns way less wood."
I purchased a Central Boiler E-2400 in 2010. I heat (3) buildings with a total square footage of 7,900 square feet. I had a Royal indoor wood boiler heating just (2) buildings prior and it did not keep up and burned a lot of wood. I went to the Central Boiler and added my shop on and on an average year burn 10-12 full cord of wood only. My friends that bought other brands could burn almost that just heating their house and I am doing my house, garage and shop and hot water. I have only spent $200 in parts (mostly maintenance like gaskets) on it in 6 years. Once I got used to firing it after a few weeks it was smooth sailing since. Would definitely buy one again.

"Quality of life"
I purchased this unit 3 years ago. It has paid for itself, but they told me it would do that. What they didn't tell me is how much it would improve the quality of life. I was not only able to heat my house to whatever temperature my family wanted, but I was also able to heat my garage to 60 degrees so I could get into a warm vehicle when it was -20 outside. I could never afford to do that with any other type of heat. Could not be happier with the furnace.

"Canadian buyers beware"
I have a 7 year old E-Classic 2300. In the past 7 years I have replaced the controller 3 times, the door gasket twice and now the firebox is leaking. I have talked to Central Boiler and they told me I would have to send it back for a new firebox that would cost me $2900.00. I would also have to pay my dealer to come pick it up and return it after it was repaired, plus I would have to pay shipping both ways to Central Boiler. Total cost for all of this would be close to $7000.00, that's what they call a warranty. Stay away from this company unless you live next door to the factory.

"It's not about the price"
Read the reviews carefully. Most people who write reviews do so because they have an issue. If you read into the reviews, most of the complaints are about service. I am a dealer and feel our service is exceptional and our products are the best. I don't feel sorry for the person who decides to drive 200 miles to buy a unit to save a couple hundred bucks and then doesn't get serviced properly. Our price includes our service and our time to show our customers how to operate their units properly. I have burned a 2300 for 8 seasons now. Love it. Took some time to figure it out, but having run one, I can now explain to our customers the proper way to load and run them. Just remember that you get what you pay for.

"E-Classic is a great choice for a populated area"
I have used a Central Boiler E-Classic 2400 for several heating seasons. I live in a small town and it was important to me to select an outdoor wood stove that was not going to be offensive to my neighbors. I have the optional gas ignition on my stove. I simply piled some wood in it in October and pushed the ignition button, the stove lit and has burnt every minute up to writing this post in late March. I have had several people ask me why I don't use my stove. I tell them I am using it, and their comment is that they never see any smoke coming out of it so they thought I wasn't using it. I tell them they are welcome to go up and open the door, because there is definitely a fire in it. I found if you simply use seasoned wood in it and follow the operator's manual on how to properly operate the stove, it works perfectly. I would not trade it for anything. It is the perfect size to run a 2400 square foot house and an 1100 square foot garage for 24 hours no matter how severe the weather. I researched many stoves before purchasing a Central Boiler, and I would definitely say this is the top of the line of any stove available in the outdoor wood furnace industry. I have the stove hooked up through the WiFi module available from Central Boiler and can view my stove's operational data from anywhere on my smart phone. This is handy when I am away and have left someone in charge of putting wood n my stove. If they forget to fuel it, the stove will let me know and I can call and remind them. I have not found anything yet I don't like about the stove, and would for sure buy the same brand again if I ever need another stove.

"Would highly recommend a Central Boiler"
I am now entering my 9th season using an E-classic 2300 and it still works perfect. I love the ease of operation and the small amount of wood I use to keep my house nice and warm. I was using a Central Boiler CL-17 for almost 20 years prior to upgrading to a E-Classic. It was still working great when I replaced it with the 2300, I just wanted to try the new cleaner burning, more efficient model and have never regretted it. I would also highly recommend that anyone using a old style or other brand of outdoor wood furnace replace it with a Central Boiler. I'm sure you would be 100% satisfied.

"Review of E1450"
I have burned an E-Classic 1450 for almost two years. My wood consumption has been reduced by 1/3 to 1/2 of what I burned in the previous 10 years with my old non-EPA furnace, believe me my old body loves this fact to say nothing of the cost savings. My neighbor was complaining about smoke from the old furnace but my E-Classic 1450 has given me a happy neighbor. The E-Classic 1450 has little to no smoke compared to my old model. I also have my furnace connected to my computer and phone by the FireStar XP option. This is an excellent tool to help me judge when wood is low and when ash needs to be removed. This has cut down on my visits to the furnace when it is cold and wet outside. This furnace is heating my 3300 square foot split foyer home. The company's guidelines for maintenance and cleaning along with seasoned wood have served to assure excellent performance. This is an appliance I don't want to be without.

"6 years and going great!"
Installed E-Classic 2400 in 2010 and it's been working great with no issues. Upgraded from an older Classic 5648 model and instantly realized I was burning about 40% less wood! I quickly learned it does operate differently than the Classic and you should not overload it. Dry wood performs the best. I upgraded the firestar controller so I was able to add the XP WiFi monitoring device on it and view it from my smartphone. I would never own an outdoor boiler without one. Great fun watching reaction chamber temperatures and history patterns which will quickly let me know if I am burning at top performance. The firebox does build more wet creosote than my Classic did so I feel that a quick daily scrape with the hoe and push through the coal bed is a must for good performance and longevity. If a person neglects doing this I could see where it could lead to corrosion problems some people report having in their reviews. I've found that good maintenance makes most mechanical items I've purchased over the years last much longer than most and is something too many people neglect. Bottom line, my E-Classic 2400 has performed flawlessly, my house is warm and I have no complaints about its operation or maintenance. During season end cleanings I've found no signs of rust or corrosion and I fully expect many more years of service from this boiler. It is now like part of the family and I would highly recommend the Central Boiler to future outdoor wood boiler buyers.

7 years old and a pinhole in the firebox halfway up on the left side in the middle. I contacted my dealer and he said that Central Boiler would only pay for having the hole welded. I am a welder and worked with steel for years. If there is one pinhole there is more to come. Also the metal around the door is rotting just like others shown on YouTube. Whatever you do stay away from anything Central Boiler makes. Junk.

"Central Boiler E-Classic"
This site is an important resource if your thinking of purchasing an outdoor water boiler. My 7 year old Central Boiler now leaks and while I have been diligent for its care and repaired and replaced parts every year mostly at my expense, now Central Boiler want a considerable amount of money to repair the stove. I can't see why I should pay more than 50% of my original investment to fix something that states on the brochure this product has a "complete 25 year warranty". The company has been rude and not willing to commit to repair costs. The final evaluation of the warranty coverage happens after you ship the stove back. At that time the company has possession. Stay away from this company and give your hard earned money to a company that will give you a solid warranty and stand behind it. Central Boiler won't be there when you need them. UPDATE 3/14/16: To update an earlier post, I checked with the company as to the material thickness used for the firebox. They indicated the .25" was used. I cut a sample out of the firebox and checked it. With no corrosion on the inside of the water jacket the materials comes in at 17 gauge or .05625" or a little thicker than the fender of your truck. This is not an isolated spot. I can provide photos for those who might be interested. Central Boiler is asking me to pay 50% of the original cost to repair the stove.

"Manufacturer and dealer"
Well, I heated with my Central Boiler E-Classic 1400 for 3 winters. First winter was great. Second and third were a struggle to keep it burning without going out. I just had to send this furnace out to the manufacturer for repair due to a leak in the left hand corner of the of the wall (where the side wall and front loading door walls meet). My dealer is now charging me $720.00 more than the quote I signed and is blaming it on Central Boiler charging more than their quote had said that I had signed previously. This quote was after it was at the factory and assessed by them to make sure the customer is OK with the price to repair everything. I have talked to Central Boiler twice, talking to two individuals in two different weeks and got the same story both times. They both said that they charged no more than what the quote said that I signed. In fact, the person whom I talked with last said that the shipping was lower than what was on the original quote. He was rude though. I wasn't impressed with that at all. So in closing, Central Boiler's stoves should last longer than three heating seasons and the dealer, *** ******* ******* ******* company in Newport, New Hampshire, is possibly trying to pull a fast one I think. Very unsatisfied with how things are going. I am still trying to figure out how to hold whomever is accountable for the over charge. Either way, it is wrong. Someone is lying. Legal advice is being sought out currently.

"Junk"
I am an owner of a Classic 2300 Central Boiler. We have had numerous problems over the six years we have had this unit! Most of the problems have been small in nature and were covered by warranty. However when the stove sprung a leak the company showed its true colors. Their response was that I neglected the stove and that this has never happened before. However a friend of mine lives down the street and had the very same problem. The company will not support or return calls or help in any way, shape, or form. They would not even recommend a welder or did not know of any. However this turned out to be false. I ran in to an individual on the street who does welding for them, we repaired it and I sent in the warranty, which the dealer said they would cover. One year later, had not heard back. I can see this is going to be an on-going battle. P.S I forgot to mention this is a dual fuel wood/propane unit. I am still waiting for them to hook up the propane, I paid for it in the installation. This should say it all.

"E - Classic 2400 wood boiler"
I have owned my E-Classic 2400 for 5 years now. I have had virtually no problems with this boiler other then normal maintenance. The key is to keep the unit clean by following Central Boiler's prescribed procedures. Another important thing is to use dry seasoned wood. I am heating approximately 13,000 square feet of area and it keeps the house at 74 degrees and supplies all the hot water we need. Central Boiler's customer service have been very helpful if I have any questions about the operation of the unit. Again the key is follow the prescribed methods and procedures for yearly cleaning and maintenance. We believe that in the 6th year of operation the unit should have paid for itself. I strongly recommend this unit.

Now the 3rd season it has happened again and they will not do anything about it. They even hung up on me on the phone and now I can't get ahold of them because they won't call me back at all, even their HR department. 25 year warranty and they won't hold to it. The stove is junk. I had other brands that lasted 15 years with no issues, so I bought this hoping because it cost more that it must be a really good stove and will last a long time. Yeah, right. It will be off my property this spring and never again will I even look at this brand again.

If you are looking for a wood fired outside boiler, do not get this one. Many problems - poor dealer assistance, less from the company. It leaks and is very high maintenance; unless very cold, cannot keep the fire going. Daily cleaning is a must. I replaced my old boiler after 23 years of service, this is the second season of operation. The only positive attributes of this stove are when it is burning, there is very little smoke and very little ash to clean out. When spring comes this boiler is going up for sale. I want it off of my property!

Bought the boiler and set it up in 2011. Halfway through my 3rd heating season the unit started leaking in the reaction chamber. This is the area below the firebox. I spoke and emailed the company many times and they were no help. The company blamed me, the operator, and I assure you I did nothing wrong. I burned only hard wood, used their chemicals, cleaned and maintained the unit religiously. Central Boiler wanted me to ship the unit back to them where they would repair the unit at my expense. What type of warranty is that? First, that would be like sending my Volvo to Sweden when it has an issue and second I'm financially responsible for their faulty product. I had two professional welders look at the job and they refused the work, stating that it would be too difficult to repair. Now I have an ugly lawn ornament. Do yourself a favor. Do not buy a Classic 1400.

"E-Classic 2300 - Wood burning an art not a science!"
I bought the Central Boiler E-Classic 2300 dual fuel in 2010 after paying nearly $7000 in propane costs the previous year to heat water for a family of 5 and a 4000+ square foot house. I live in "Taylor " country in rural North Carolina and watched my neighbors burn through enormous amounts of wood - 15 to 20 cords/year with a stove that rusted out in about 10 years. I did extensive research on materials (stainless vs boiler plate), wood burning technology and legislative trends around the country with regard to outdoor wood burning stoves. Many states were trending towards banning these stoves or requiring catalytic converters at the time. The concept of gasification, using boiler plate instead of stainless, properly insulated underground water transmission pipes (mine travel a 140 feet) all made tremendous sense to me. I bought one and had it installed, but also helped by doing a lot of the grunt work like digging the trenches; total cost $13,000. Financed it and paid it off in 3 years. First year did all the wood cutting myself - total heating cost- $700 including chains, gas and electricity to run the Central Boiler pumps and the blower on my gas pack. I used about 9 cords of wood: the house was a steady 72+ degrees and I had 4 girls living at home, we all still loved long hot showers and washed cloths 5-6 times per week. I fortunately missed many of the early quality problems with leaking from bad welds but I did have to: remove the fire brick inside the burn chamber (end of year 1 ) - replace the inlet to the reaction chamber due to warping (during year 2, under warranty) - replaced the plate on the reaction chamber door due to warping: 2013 - burned out a taco pump - replaced the "cartridge" 2013 - I have burned out one low water shutoff sensor -winter of 2014 - I have burned out one fan that provides the airflow - winter of 2014 - my air channel has cracks through most holes in the main burn chamber 2014 - no action - replaced the door seal to the wood burning chamber -the ignition system for the main chamber is near the end of its life, I can only clean it just so many times ~ $250 I consider most of this maintenance for a pretty complex machine that is paid off and saved me 90% in heating costs. When I have a good seal and dry wood, I see nothing coming out of the smoke stack. When I have green or wet wood I see mostly white steam until the wood is dry, then some smoke for an hour or so then nothing out of the stack. I always use the inhibitor in the water, and the Ashtray. Another thing I do is wait for the boiler to get to 192 F (or when impatient - anything over 175F) and use a roof scraper ($30 Home Depot) to scrape the soft gooey material off the top and sides of the burn chamber because I noticed moisture builds up behind it if left in place. Until I started doing this I thought I had an intermittent water leak because there would be dripping and pooling of water. The goo at this point is fuel - the precursor to syngas- and when it is scraped and turned into the burn chamber is highly flammable. In some ways this is the point of gasification. As for keeping it going this is the art part, checking watching for cavitation, shifting the wood around, when to refill or add more wood, combination of slabs and logs, etc. Nothing easy or cheap and this is a machine that burns really hot and requires care. It is not plug and play.

"Do not purchase"
Please take the time to do some research and read reviews! Check the reviews and complaints on the Better Business Bureau! I cannot stress this enough! I purchased a Central Boiler E-Classic 1400 three years ago with a total burn time of 19 months. Although I maintained it regularly, tested water, cleaned weekly and burn only high quality seasoned wood, I have a had some type of issue with this stove every year. The worst issue is that I can no longer use my stove at all due to a leak in the firebox. A professional welder came to look at my Central Boiler and stated in the presence of the salesperson that this stove was being misrepresented and needed to be replaced! All you will get from Central Boiler is the run around and the expectation of you shipping the product back to them at your expense. Several reviews are stating that the customer is always blamed for defective products and Central Boiler does not honor warranties but expects the consumer to drop thousands more into this product after purchase! Please save yourself the headache and money and do not purchase a Central Boiler! Many customers are reporting the same issues and most are leaking fireboxes in just a short time of use! The dealer and salesperson have been nothing but rude as well! Central Boiler is rude and couldn't care less about quality nor customer service! I purchased from ******** ******* *********, Greenboro, North Carolina, but they have locations in North Wilksboro, North Carolina and Galax, Virginia. Please do not purchase a Central Boiler system!

Have had my boiler for 5 years and I purchased it when it was 4 years old. I haven't had a lick of trouble with it except my wife thinks the house needs to be 85 degrees all the time just because it doesn't cost any more. I have my own wood lot so I haven't had a heating bill in 5 years. I burn year around to heat my water, I have a forced air system to heat my house and a water to water heat exchanger to heat my water in my existing 40 gallon electric hot water heater. The recovery time on the hot water is almost nonexistent. We can do the laundry and take 4 to 5 back to back showers before running out, compared to 1.5 showers with an electric water heater. I burn around 10 cord year round and my electric bill also dropped.

"Boiler leaking"
Bought a new E-Classic 1400 in January 2012. Only 3 years later it sprang 2 leaks. In March 2015 I cleaned the firebox completely, only to find that the whole inside of the firebox is deteriorating. The 25-year warranty is a joke. No help from the dealer or Central Boiler. I don't know how they can treat their customers like this. Don't buy.

"Leaks constantly, beware"
I have a newer E2300 Classic dual fuel model. It has been completely replaced by the factory, once after two years due to early model design flaws, causing central boiler to make specific recommendations on removing the fire brick. It then developed a leak and I sent it back to the factory at a cost of about $3,000. It was two years old, my nitrates and oh we're perfect and it was for a new system. I got terrible service from the factory. They couldn't even tell me when they were shipping it back. So this winter it developed a leak in the same spot as when I sent it back. Where the weld repair was made it leaked along the entire weld. This furnace is the worse maintenance, poorly engineered junk ever made. I have over $17,000 in my dual fuel model. Stay away or you will end up like other reviewers who went with wood. Inches of unwanted in the unit and no heat. I'm five years into mine. To recap: it was replaced. After two years it developed a leak. And after another two years it developed a second leak. Aghhh.

"Mixed reviews"
If I were simply giving a score to the boiler, I would give it a high score. I have owned a 3200 for almost two years (two heating seasons). I have had a good experience with the equipment, but here are my complaints: I have burned out two of the solenoid units that control the airflow. I have burned out one fan that provides the airflow. I have gone through (2) two sets of brass hinge pins for the back access panel. I have broken (2) two fire bricks for the combustion chamber. I have burned out one low water shutoff (my fault because I boiled off the water). So, I have had my share of part failures. All of these items were no charge or fairly cheap, so I can't complain. Just letting others know that parts do break. My biggest complaint with this company is the home office. They do everything in their power not to help when you call. They pretty much force you to go to your dealer with any and all issues. You have to really beat them up to help you over the phone. Considering the money I spent, they should be happy to help me in any way they can. This happens every time I call.

"E-Classic piece of junk"
We replaced our great Taylor Outside Wood Burner with an EPA-cleared E-Classic 1650. It has cost us $100 a month extra in electricity. Also, you cannot leave the thing, as it goes out, or stops the blower (open the door and it is still lit)? But it has the fire out code and the house is cold. We are going to sell this shit box and install a wood stove and propane boiler. Save your $11800.00 and a lot of ass ache. P.S. - the dealer was unhelpful. He said half of his customers hated the boilers!

"Stay away from Central!"
Central Boiler E-Classic gasification stoves are prone to rust and failure. Spent $12,000 on a stove that lasted 3 years; the firebox rusted through. Found out about the "Warranty" when I had to spend $3,000 for them to swap my stove with another failed and rebuilt stove. I took the best care possible of the new one with relentless cleanings and very thorough end of season maintenance. Three years later, this one is junk! Same problem. On top of all that, they have horrible customer service; complete jerks that try to blame you for any problems and weasel out of any liability. They didn't even return my calls after the second stove failed. There should be a class action suit.

I love the quality of my boiler! It heats my whole house! I like it very hot in the cold winter months and this boiler creates the fiery furnace atmosphere that I've come to know and love. I've owned my boiler for about two years and don't really have any complaints about it. It saves on energy bills, that's for sure! I haven't had to have any repairs or replacements on my boiler as of yet but then again, it's still new.

"E Classic 2300 - 2013 junk"
I paid around $15,000.00 in 2013 for an E-Classic 2300, including parts needed to set it up and connect to my existing oil heating system. It uses way more wood than the dealer claimed. I have to fill it 2-3 times a day in cold weather (below zero at night and teens during the day - typical winter temperatures in Central Maine). I haven't had any firebox leaks yet, based on other reviews I'm sure it won't be long. I dread having to deal with Central Boiler on any warranty issues. Maine does have an implied warranty law which, hopefully, will help when the firebox does start leaking. Overall, I think Central Boiler is probably one of the worst, and most overpriced, outdoor wood companies on the market. I wouldn't buy another E-Classic and wish I had researched wood boilers more before buying a Central Boiler unit.

Around 6 months ago I got the boiler, because I was in desperate need of heating. Overall, I like the boiler because it is easy to install, but I do wish it was slightly cheaper. The good thing about it though is that I have had no issues so far, which isnt true of my experience with other companies... I told my mom and all my friends about how easy it was to install, and recommended it to my neighbor, who noticed it newly appearing. No regrets, would definitely buy again!

"Central Boiler warranty is worthless"
We bought the E-Classic 2300 in 11/08 and actually started using it on 1/1/09. It has been one problem after another with this furnace and Central Boiler's lack of communication/support. Our dealer retired, and we were notified about who would be our new dealer. We had to find one online. By the time we located a new dealer, many "upgrades/changes" had been recommended by Central Boiler. When we asked why we were not notified, we were told that "they can't keep track of where all their furnaces are". We have had many minor issues over the years with parts until April 2014. When firing the furnace, we noticed a small leak in the weld of the left side of the firebox. We called Central Boiler and had to leave a message. Even the dealer could not get them to respond to communication from them regarding the leak. By 9/14, we still did not have any resolution, so the dealer told us to get a welder to fix it so we could use it and take pictures before and after the repair, send a copy of the receipt to them, and they would forward to Central Boiler. The professional welder that repaired it said that all the other welds looked terrible, and he expected that they would leak in the near future. He was right!! 1/5/15, the boiler shut down because the welds on the right side gave out, and a major stress crack in the metal of the firewall was spewing water all over. The welder came and tried to repair it, but the metal was so thin, he couldn't weld it. We had to threaten Central Boiler with legal action to get them to return our call. The 25-year warranty is not good for much. The water box is a 10-year pro-rated warranty. They told us that between the price of shipping the furnace to them (Vermont to Minnesota), inspection, and then repair, if they deem it to be defective materials/workmanship, it would cost us $3300. It could cost more if they felt we had done something wrong (plus it would take months to repair). From people we have talked to and reviews that we have read, the consumer is almost always found to be at fault. We have filed a complaint via the Consumer Protection Agency through our state's Attorney General office to get some resolution. We think that a class action suit should be started as well. It has been 2 weeks since they have received the complaint, and no response. Typical! Do not buy any products from Central Boiler! You will surely regret it!

"Way over-engineered"
I had a Mahoning for 15 years before upgrading to the E-Classic 3 years ago. Although the Mahoning had some challenges at the end, I would gladly exchange this monstrosity for my old work horse. The Central is a constant headache. The down draft feature is always messing up. Sometimes it burns itself out under a full load of wood. Sometimes it clogs up and dampens itself. The biggest problem is the clogging of the draft ports located low on the sides of the firebox. It s a constant struggle to keep these slots open. Digging the gooey creosote out is one of the most unpleasant jobs I've ever done. This furnace has resorted to rocket science to address a very simple design requirement.

"The best and most convenient boiler I have ever had"
I've owned my Central Boiler for about two years now. The furnace is fantastic, one of the best furnaces my husband and I have experimented with. We had a cheaper brand in the past, but we had to replace it because it wasn't working as well as when we first bought it. The Central Boiler is very efficient in warming up our house, and I love the hinge door it has in the back, it enables me or my husband to remove the ashes quickly. I also enjoy how we could light the fire with the push of a button; the power ignition is the one to light it. I mean this furnace is great, and we use half the wood on it then we did with our last one. Also, it is nicely constructed and blends with my outside area. I really have no complaints about this furnace so far. We haven't had to replace it. Hopefully it lasts a couple of years more.

I would be using about 700 gallons of propane per month in cold weather if I didn't heat with my E-Classic. It has paid for itself many times over. I have had no issues or repairs needed. It is very important to maintain as manual says to. If I don't do the simple maintenance the furnace doesn't work as well.

"Major cracks in firebox"
My E-Classic 2400 is 3 years old. Aside from ridiculous maintenance procedures, I have had numerous problems with many different parts, water level sensors (2 times), temperature sensors (2 times), door seals (3 times), and blower fan replacements (3 times). Don't buy one of these thinking it is low maintenance! You do not just toss a little wood in it all winter long and enjoy nice cozy heat. They are a lot of work! Now, after cleaning my firebox this afternoon, I have found about eight large cracks in the firebox, four of them very significant. I called my dealer and he said if it's not leaking, don't worry about it! Wow! Really! We'll see what the manufacturer says Monday. From what I've read on the internet, I'm not hopeful.

I bought a 2400 brand new for $12,000. In 3 years it had rusted through and begun leaking. The warranty was a joke, and I paid $3000 to get the stove rebuilt. They convinced me I had done a lousy job cleaning it and I figured I could have done better. With the new stove, I have religiously cleaned it and put much more effort into this than I should think necessary and after 3 years, unbelievably, I can see the pitting on the walls growing as I stand by helplessly cleaning for nothing! Other than the rusting and horrible customer service, I do love the stove and have had no other issues with it but when it rusts through(probably in weeks) I will never buy another Central product again. Don't be fooled by their claim of this 25-year warranty because they don't stand behind it for a second!

We have now had two heating experts who have inspected the installation and declared it "remarkable" that someone who claims to be a professional outdoor boiler could allow the installation that we now have. This is aside from the fact that Central Boilers are among the lowest rated in the field. I could go on, but it would just get worse. Bottom line, avoid the brand and the dealer at all costs.

The house is well insulated, approximately 3000 square feet, and we burn approximately 18 face cords of seasoned oak per winter. It's our first outdoor boiler, so I have nothing to compare it to. It took from May until October to find out that Central Boiler would not cover it. My local dealer was terrible at handling the situation. Apparently I had not taken care of the furnace, yet I cleaned it, constantly removed ashes and oiled it as well. I also used corrosion inhibitor and Ashtrol. Yet this Central Boiler will not back their warranty. It seems they will come up with every excuse to void the warranty. The company went by pictures to determine that it was my fault the furnace cracked. I will never ever buy a Central Boiler again and encourage nobody else to! Signed, Frustrated.

The dealer would charge for new pumps and labor to come out. Nothing covered by the warranty. Finally we bought better pumps and called Central Boiler for tips. No pump failure in 2 years. The oil burner stopped working after 6 months. The temp sensor isn't water proof and it has failed. None covered under the warranty. The unit overheats constantly, so I always have to add water. It also burns a tremendous amount of wood. I estimate it's about 20% efficient. Terrible product that cost over $25,000. Avoid, avoid, avoid! Find a better brand or a different system altogether.

"Do not purchase a Central Boiler!!"
When -- not "if" -- I have to replace my Central Boiler eClassic I will not ever purchase another product from Central Boiler!! I discourage anyone that may be considering purchasing any product from Central Boiler. I am just coming through my 2 season with my external boiler system. The first season I froze because the fire kept going out! The dealer only installed 1 section of the chimney stack which did not provide enough air draw but that was not the only reason my fire kept going out. They really spent no time educating me on the product after purchase so the operation of this unit has been trial and error and learning as I go. I cannot file my product manual away because I am constantly having to refer back to it. The second season we hit below zero temps and my wood stove failed. A solenoid had to replaced and the lights. I was told that one or the other burn the other out. The door gasket on the main firebox had to be replaced. When they sent the silicone for the gasket it stated on the tube that it was only good for temperature of 400 degrees. My Central boiler has hit temps above 1000 degrees and it even stated in the manual how to read the unit temperature when the temps exceed 1000. If the day time temperature rises and the night time temps are still below freezing often the fire will go out unless I turn the thermostat up to a very uncomfortable inside temp. Cleaning the e Classic is very difficult. The back reaction chamber is very hard to clean. The air holes are bad to clog and are very difficult to clean. It is difficult to keep the air holes cleared while you have a fire. The dealer that sold me the unit would not return my calls and when he finally did he was obnoxious and even called me a liar, stating that he had tried to return my calls (I have a landline and a cell phone both with caller id and voicemail, both numbers he had) when clearly he had not!! I called central boiler and they would not return my calls and when I finally spoke to a representative they were not helpful at all and did not stand behind their product or the dealer!! When they finally decided to address my issues neither the dealer or service repair person were knowledgable enough to work on the unit and had to keep calling Central Boiler. They refused to over night the parts that I needed even though this was my only source of heat and we were currently experiencing below zero temps!!!! The dealer wanted me to work on the unit while he directed me over the phone as opposed to sending a service tech to save money on a service call!! I refused as to not void my warranty!! When they sell you the unit the dealer also fails to inform you that you will spend a fortune in additional parts just to get the unit installed. I was additionally informed that the unit wood only have to be load one per day or once every couple of days depending on the temps. At minimal I have to load my wood stove twice per day. I know several others in my community that have purchased from Central Boiler which have had the same or similar complaints!!! When I replace this unit I will replace it with a Hardy System!!!!!!!

"Do not expect ANY help from Central Boiler on your E-Classic 2400"
I have been burning my e-classic 2400 for several years now. Nothing but problems. Having to rod out both the firebox and charge air passages 5 to 6 times a year just to keep it burning close to the temperatures it should reach is ridiculous. And to do it take 18 to 24 hours of difficult messy labor with coat hangers, screw drivers and a shop vac from inside and from the charge air box side, elbows removed. This thing is so much more work than advertised it's a joke. And getting any help from my dealer is even more of a joke. After 18 months of operation my door seal was shot, leaking creosote down the front. It's a bad design, unfortunately I did not realize it when I made the purchase. On a posative note I can say that for the time periods when you can get it burning properly, usually about 3-4 weeks tops, it works well. And it has not sprung a leak yet and I am glad I am not paying a propanr bill anymore. But unless you have a Barn where you can store your wood and keep it as dry as possible, forget it, you will pull your hair out with one of these. I keep my wood covered in bad weather under plastic tarps in home made racks and uncover when it's nice out, but it's difficult to ever have enough dry split wood on hand. I heat hot water year round, and my house in winter. All in all I would not recommend this boiler to anyone.

There is so much monthly maintenance and grief from this boiler we wish we would never of brought it. Last yr it over heated / ash box warped causing other damage. Guess what the company sent parts but we still had to pay shipping & labor to install. Prior to that the heater exchange for the water heater was leaking and had to pay for that . Never before seen occurrence but approx. $500 later no sympathy from the company or dealer. Give the dealer credit though he has answered a lot of questions and helped talk my husband though a lot of the problems . Course he's so far away he doesn't want the drive to our house. Nor do we want to pay the drive time / labor. Our neighbor brought a cheaper brand with no expense or problems / no maintenance / just throws the wood in and leaves it.. Other then emptying the ash box occasionally. Isn't it suppose to be that simple .. now this yr after my husband replaces all the parts / fire brick even though the company said they weren't needed any more (hubby didn't trust that one ) the fire keeps going out and he has to go out and get it going again. Called the company and no answers for the problem. We're so sick of the stupid thing .. not worth the headaches its causes or the money . don't waste your money or your time thinking your buying an up standing product with a good company . The only thing we do enjoy is the type of heat with burning wood & heating the hot water as well. In my opinion it's not worth it. Sorry I didn't recall the model # but it wasn't cheap.I'm sure they all have the same results. Bad

I am on my third season with this unit, and, so far, no major problems. It took me a season or two to figure the right settings and find that using 16" split/dry/pine gives me 12-14 hours of burn time with temps in the 15 degree range at night. Using longer whole logs does not work as well. When I have had questions about my furnace Central Boiler never returned my calls. I am not sure how they can charge 9k plus and have such poor customer service. I have lived in mn, so I know the cold weather can make it hard to talk freezing your jaw.... Would I recommend it? I am not sure, because if I did have problems I am afraid I would be "left out in the cold" with their lack of customer service, and the dealer not only is two-hours away he takes a ho-hum attitude towards responding.

After all this, material was picked up from my dealer. He informed me that he was too busy with his construction business to worry about installing it. I have not had one day of use from it without trouble. It won't stay burning and after repeated calls to Central Boiler, I am draining the entire unit and leaving my 18,000 monster sitting in my yard until I find someone who come out and show me what is wrong with it. They keep telling me to read the books and see the video. That does not help in keeping this monster burning. Think twice before you think that you are going to get an easy source of heat. I would not recommend anyone buying one of these expensive pieces of junk unless there is a guarantee that it will be in working order before you pay for it.

After an expensive installation, the service was good for the 1st year but after that...f you. The damper failed, then the pump. Guess what? Not covered by their f in "25-year warranty".

"Disappointed and Frustrated"
After investing $16,000 and endless hours of my time over the past 18 months, I'm deeply disappointed with the E-Classic 1450. I've followed the instructions to a "t" and the darned thing won't stay lit. Sometimes, I have to light it 4 times in a single day. The function which supposedly keeps it lit was never explained by the dealer and poorly documented in the manual. But even now with it set properly, the fire poops out all the time. My wood is dry and split just as specified in the video and manual. Running this thing has become a 2nd job for me. Wish I'd researched this product more fully before falling for the marketing which depicts it as easy to operate and dependable.

"E2300"
We have had nothing good to say about the E2300. Don't waste your hard earned money on this stove. We bought this stove as it was supposed to be more efficient. It has been horrible. I upgraded to this as I had one of the older ones and it has been the worst investment I've ever made. They should be made to recall all these and replace them with something that works. Do report this to consumers report. Terrible service. Not willing to work with customers.

"Central Boiler Lawsuit"
The Alaska AG filed a lawsuit against family with two E-Classic 2300s made by Central Boiler. They shut them down because the pollution made staff and children sick at Woodriver Elementary School in Fairbanks. It is recommended that everyone do their homework. You will find these wood boilers eat a lot of wood and put out a lot of pollution. States are now suing EPA for failure to regulate them and misleading the public on the efficiencies.

"E2300 Central Boiler"
I have had the unit since the fall of '08. There has been one problem after another with the boiler. Central Boiler tells you to speak to the dealer. The dealer says the units were rushed out the door to meet the new EPA requirements. It is a poorly engineered wood burner. Central Boiler will not stand behind the unit and claims it is how it is operated. Get something else to heat your house. With the amount of labor and repair costs, it would be cheaper to heat with oil!

"Wi-fi ready"
Central Boiler ad says wi-fi ready...but after I bought the E-classic 1450 central boiler says I now need an additional 300+ dollars box and 100 dollar cable that should have been put in underground? I need a wire for a furnace advertised as wi-fi ready? Central Boiler is a joke, they are big on the sale, but after the sale forget about calling central boiler for anything, central boiler points everything back to the dealer, my dealer was great but central boiler is the worst I have ever dealt with. Update: My cb dealer is the best, did a great job on the installation of the complete unit for both home and another shop building. cb is deceiving on the ad saying wi-fi ready, the e-classic is not wi-fi ready as advertised unless you pay extra for a box and addition underground wire, this is very dis-appoing by cb to sell such a furnace and then expect the customer to pay all the extra for wi-fi, guessing cb is not sure what wi-fi means, details defined after purchase to my cb dealer, very pleased with the cb dealer, very dis-appointed with cb and the false ad on wi-fi ready Update #2: Buyer beware. I thought I researched Central Boiler, wrong. I fail for all the Central Boiler videos explaining how great their boilers are and all that is available. What happens after the sale. Same as all the other people that state you cannot speak with anyone there in their supposedly tech support. Our local dealer is great and has tried helping with the wi-fi installation. However he states he has not installed one before and is not familiar with the connection, cable, grounding, etc. He informed us to call Cental Boiler directly as they informed him to tell us to call. We have repeatedly called, all we get is call transferred to voicemail. We called back and were told to speak with our local dealer. What a run-a-round. It is really hard to understand how our local dealer (who is great) can be associated with such a company. Our local dealer called Central Boiler and they tell him for us to call them. Get the picture, I do.. late. Please check reviews, you will read the same from numerous others.

"Firebox leaked within 14 months use"
Bought two new e2300 Central Boilers from local dealer. After 14 months one has a quarter size hole near top of firebox and leaks at three seams. Have 25 year warranty but company will not honor. Called company and was treated rudely and no help. Dealer hired a certified welder but could not fix all the leaks. Sent boiler to company and they will send a rebuilt one to us for $4500. I have an Amish built wood boiler built about 40 years ago and it still works with no leaks.

"JUNK!"
This is the biggest piece of junk I have were invested my money in. I agree with others that the company is extremely rude and does not stand behind their product at all. The 25 year warranty is worthless and doesn't cover anything. I have a few friends whose have the central boiler models that are not gasification and they work great. My gasification model is junk!!!! I would never recommend them to anyone. I am contacting a lawyer to rectify the situation! Very sad!

"Central Boiler Eclassic 2300"
I have had my Central Boiler Eclassic 2300 for 3.5 years. There are many things that I enjoy about the stove, such as its ability to control the fans depending on the water temperature and the burn time. It effectively heats my home and water during the colder months of the year. There is a slight learning curve for the stove, however. The wood used needs to be very dry, as opposed to the Classic models, which will burn green and wet wood. This makes a day and night difference in burning performance. I have the duel fuel model which is hooked up to a propane tank. I highly recommend this feature so you are able to light or relight the stove efficiently. Even if you turn off the propane to the stove, you can still use this feature because it's hooked up to both fans and can help in the lighting process. One thing I do not like about the stove is access to the tubes and the reaction chamber. The doors are not hinged, but held on with very large wing nuts. These are effective, but would be much more easy to operate if they were on hinged doors for faster cleaning time. The main repair to the stove I've had to make is replacing some of the wiring located on the back of the air flow solenoids. If the passage way to the reaction chamber gets plugged, the stove will try to draw air from the next available place, the air intakes. The fire will melt the wiring to these. I would recommend wrapping them in fireproof wrapping to avoid later repair. Other repairs that I've made were just normal maintenance items, such as door seals. I would buy this same brand again and I would recommend it to a friend if they are looking for an outdoor wood furnace solution.

"Truly an award winning product"
When my husband and I bought our vacation home in the mountains about 3 years ago. We decided that we would spend the winter there. We realized that we would need a heating that was efficient and reliable. We asked friends and family for advice and at least twice we heard a person or two mention the Central Boiler E-Classic® 2200. After several months of shopping around we finally decided on purchasing the Central Boiler E-Classic® 2200. It fit perfectly with the overall design of the house. It is efficient, clean and eco-friendly. So far this product has not given us any problems nor did we have do any repairs. We were advised on getting it serviced at least once a year, which we have done so far and we have not had any problems. I would recommend to a friend, and if I shall ever purchase another home I will definitely purchase another one.

"I LOVE my outdoor wood boiler!"
My family and I have owned the E-Classic for approximately 5 years now and we have had pretty good luck with the furnace. What we most like about the outdoor furnace is the fact that it saves us a great deal of money per month. What I don't particularly like about he furnace is that there have been times when the furnace does not work at all! I have called the manufacturer and they are working with us to correct the problem. We had this current model for approximately 5 years and I'm not sure if it's in need of repairs or replacement yet. As I stated, the manufacturer is working with us closely. I would absolutely recommended this brand (and I have!) to friends of ours. However, I don't believe I would recommended this particular model (the E-Classic 2400) just because we have been having so much trouble with it lately.

"Keeping my home warm"
We bought the furnace (Boiler) about a year ago with our refund check, we enjoy it immensely, it has done a fabulous job keeping the workshop warm and cozy, there is a little extra work with it which can sometimes be a pain in the butt, especially on those bitterly cold days. You do have to maintenance it almost daily, which you don't have to do with a central system, but the cost is so much cheaper in the long run. For that reason alone it is very well worth the maintenance. I would say, on average, we have saved almost 1,000 just this year alone. So far, we have not had to do any repairs to it. I would recommend it to any of my friends who have enough time on their hands for the maintenance. If you do not have the time for the mainenance, the machine will pretty much be useless. You won't get the heat you need and will probably have many costly repairs.

"A review of my Central Boiler wood furnace"
I have owned my furnace for about a year now and I must say it is fantastic. The simplicity of use paired with the overall saving from using wood instead of electricity or propane to heat my home is a sure fire win in my eyes. Obviously, no one likes to trudge through the deep snow in order to stock the furnace, but the relativity close proximity to my back porch makes it tolerable. I believe that I have found a brand in which I will happily invest in for many years to come. There are newer models being released all the time, and I am almost excited for the day that we will get an upgrade. I would willingly recommend the E- Classic series to anyone and everyone. If its comfort you seek at a price that makes it hard not to compete with Central Boiler has you covered. And what more could you really ask for?

"Outdoor Wood Furnace Review"
I have owned my E-Classic 2300 for a couple months. I do like the massive insulated chimney coming out the top of the furnace. The blank colour also fits in well with my house which is white. I also like how big the fire box is as it has a large door and hull to put large pieces of wood in at once. I do not like the FireStar Controller as it is really hard to use in the night and during winter. I did have to repair it once when my kids killed a ball into the insulated chimney knocking it off. I then had to pay to get it repaired. It was rather annoying as I had only bought it the a couple months ago. After the ball accident I am not sure if I approve of this brand anymore. Originally I had bought it through recommendation of a friend who had the same model as me. I would look for a different brand in the future.

"Great when it works"
When the boiler works it is very clean and burns less wood than others. I have had the boiler for one and a half season and in that time we have had the air values fail, by pass door fail, the main electric box burn up,gas value fail, main blower fail on the coldest night of the year and last but not least when we cleaned it this spring we found a hole in the fire box. When we tried to get it welded we found that the fire box had failed as well it has at least ten holes. There is water treatment in the water and it look like it is bad steel as it is failing from the fire side. There is a big sign on the side of the boiler that say 25 year warranty, but the truth is that there is just 10 years on the fire box and that is for the parts only. To have it fixed by central boiler it will cost $4800 for a boiler that cost $13000 two years ago. With all the things that has happened I wish they would make a visit to my hone and find a fare fix to this. For now we are using electric and hoping for help.
