We bought a house a month ago and it has 2017 Ruud professional water- heater. The past owner just installed it last year. We're just a month of living here and this heater just stopped working. Customer service told us what to do try to fix it, but it didn't work. So, they send a plumber the following day, the plumber told Rheem that the assembly blower needs to be replaced. So we waited another day for the part to arrive. Finally it arrived, we called the plumber and he replaced it, turn it on, and now the valve doesn't work! We have no hot water for almost a week now. Still waiting for the valve to arrive. I hope that there will be no more other problems once the replacement valve gets installed. This is a piece of junk. Will never recommend to anyone.

"None working w/h"
So my customer called and said they had no hot water, so I took a look at it and thought it may just neede d to be re-lite, that didn’t work. I get on the phone with the manufacture and they tell me that it needs a new gas valve and pilot assembly and it would take 2 to 3 business days to arrive? Wtf? Why don’t they sell these parts at like Home Depot or Lowe’s ? Nope you haft to wait. So the parts arrived and they where installed and it had the same issue. So now they say it is a safety component that needs replaced and it would take another 2 to 3 days. My customers are pissed off. That will be the last ruud water heater I sell.

"Rudd = Total Crap"
3 Cylinders in the space of 16 years !!! Criminal and outrageous. My first Rudd lasted 10 years, the second is now needing replacement after 6 years. Companies that make rubbish like this don't deserve to be in business.

In 1993 we replaced an existing gas-fired 40-gal water heater with a new Bradford-White. This unit lasted 19 years, and was then replaced in January 2012 with a similar unit made by Ruud. This unit only lasted until March 2017; just over 5 years before it began to leak. The same plumber that installed the unit in 2012 said Rudd would replace it under the 6-year warranty, but then they would only warrant the new unit for the remaining 90 days of the warranty that began in 2012. So, what good is their 6-year warranty, when the replacement does not carry the same warranty? The difficult part of this scenario is the homeowner is stuck with a flooded utility room or garage, along with not having hot water, at the same time as trying to make a rational decision on replacement; and the plumber will deliver & install what he has in inventory; which is likely to be the same brand that caused all the trouble.

"2 year new installation"
I cannot believe that this new unit quit after 2 years in a new home installation. I called technical support for advise on parts in my home area, of course the only contacts were contractors (which did not have any parts stocked), and Home Depot that only sells the thermocouple (t/c). Described unit issue, and they said replace the t/c, but I described the issue of pilot lighting and the unit would work for about 8-15 minutes, then the flame would go out. I was pretty sure that the gas control was the failure that needed to be addressed. They "Next Day" the t/c and I replaced it, same issue after new t/c installation. Called technical support again, then they decided it was the gas control valve. Wow - now I had to wait another 2-3 days for replacement. I would not recommend the purchase of a Rheem or Ruud product if you cannot get parts readily available in your area.

"Ditto Tom's comment"
$1500, and it died 6 months after the 6-year warranty expired. Replaced it with an A.O. Smith unit. Never will I recommend Ruud to anyone.

"My Ruud water heater died after just 6 and a half years"
Bought my Ruud water heater in April 2006. It had to be unplugged and plugged back in many times during the time we had it because the water would get cold. Then yesterday we find water all over the floor after just a little over six years and we had the six year warranty wouldn't you know. Had to do the usual clean up and buy a new water heater (not a Ruud!) today for 1100 dollars. Six and a half years?!!!!!! I would NOT recommend purchasing a Ruud water Heater.

The stick that measures the heat, keeps on disintegrating, I know I have hard water, but this has never happened so often.

I've had my ruud in the attic servicing my famiy's needs for the last 15 years and have hardly even given it a thought-THAT'S a dependable water heater. If this unit ever does give up the ghost on us, I'll surely have another ruud installed.
