Do not purchase a Rheem water heater! If I could give them zero stars, I would. Our water heater started leaking 2 yrs after install (rusted out). The day we were getting a new one, the front panel burst into flames, resulting in a call to 911. Thankfully, we were home, or our house would be gone & our pets would be dead! My husband took it back to Home Depot, but because we didnít have the receipt (?!?), they would only issue store credit. They only sell Rheem, so no way weíre we going to get another one. We went to Loweís and are out another $410 for a different brand. When I called customer service, I spoke with 3 different people. NOT ONE of them apologized or showed any remorse for our house fire; in fact, they didnít even sound surprised. The Sr. Rep I spoke with (who claimed she was the highest up person I could speak with over the phone) tried to tell me it was our fault (no), our electric system (no again), and then tried to tell me it was Home Depotís fault (they didnít make the unit, YOU DID!). They were HORRIBLE, and tried to buy me off with a $100 ďCustomer Satisfaction CheckĒ. I declined, telling them that didnít cut it; I wanted the full price of the new water heater I had to buy out of pocket. She continued to be rude, refuse, and treat me like a know-nothing nuisance. All I was ultimately given was the address & email of their corporate headquarters to take the matter further. (Apparently, there are no phones at corporate.) So now Iím gathering up all of my documentation (fire report, photos, etc.). If thereís a lawsuit forming out there, Iíll GLADLY join!

I purchased a 40-gallon electric hot water heater from homedepot. Installed it, and it did not heat the water after 4 hours. Called the number provided and they said they are short on technicians in this area. They will contact us on the first business day. This was Saturday so I would have to wait until Monday. We went back to homedepot and purchased another of the same heater. This one had a huge dent in it. Took it back for an exchange. Installed the 3rd one. Turned on water and the water started pouring out of the upper heating element. I called home depot and they graciously took back all of the heaters. I would Not recommend this brand to anyone. Stick to air conditioning. Home depot was the Best.

"Worked As Advertised"
Had a Rheem manufactured June 2005 in place when we bought the house in 2010. It just failed December 2017. That means it is a 6 year warranty model that lasted for 12 years and six months. So it is a good unit.

I bought hot water heater from Home Depot. I had it installed, but it would not go on. I called Rheem customer service they told me it was not firing and they would send me the part. The part did not show up because they had the wrong address. They told me to call FedEx to change address. I called FedEx they said only Rheem could change. I called Rheem and they said they can't make out going calls. 5 days and no hot water. Rheem is a horrible company. I would never buy anything from this company again. Don't know what to do.

"Exactly 3 months and pilot/leakage issue"
Installed a 38gal and 38k btu rheem performance tank type water heater and in exactly 90 days from purchase and installation date the pilot went out and would not relight. It got close to relighting but after a puff of white smoke/maybe steam I turned the gas off as the red light was flashing. When I removed the water heater and tilted it downward there was about a gallon of water running out of the area where the burner is. We called rheem and the 90 day warranty was up the very next day from Home Depot. We took the water back to Home Depot and received store credit. The only problem with Home Depot is that they only sell rheem water heaters. We ended up getting the same exact water heater because we are thinking that one was a dud. I will update if something happens to this new one.

"Rheem Performance 40 gallon review"
We recently purchased a new home and within 6 months the water heater stopped working. After doing some research we came across the Rheem Performance 40 gallon heater. We have owned the unit for about 6 months now and have almost no complaints at all. Water heats up quick and stays hot for a pretty good amount of time. This is a huge issue for us since both of us like to take rather long showers. With our old unit we would be out of water literally within five minutes if we were both taking showers. Now we both can be in shower at same time and easily lasts us over 20 minutes. The only time I have ever had an issue was when doing the dishes, using the washing machine, and both of us taking separate showers, and this is obviously not something that happens frequently. Overall I have no complaints at all about this water heater and would recommend it to anybody in the market.

"Review of my water heater"
I have owned this water heater for only about 6 months but have loved it. It seems to heat water up rather quickly. I haven't noticed anything I really dislike about it yet. So far we haven't needed to perform any sort of repairs on it and it doesn't appear that we will need to anytime in the near future. I am quite please with our choice in water heaters for our home and wouldn't choose different if I had to do it all over again.

"Rheem preformance water heater gets the job done!"
My wife and I started looking for a new water heater when ours went out a few years ago. There were so many options on the market that we were a little confused about what kind of heater we should go with. However on the recommendation of one of our friends, we went with this Rheem model and I can honestly say that we are quite satisfied. The installation of the unit was fairly easy, my wife and I were able to self-install within a few hours' time. The heater has provided good heat throughout the year and high yields in particular when we shower (my wife likes to take long showers in excess of 15 minutes and never has an issue running out of water). Our dishwasher, washing machine and sinks also have great performance. We have had the unit for close to three years without any issues, and have recommended it to other family members when their units when down as well.

This unit does not drain from the bottom pan, so condensation or water entering from the side combustion vents or from the top vent will collect in the bottom pan and shut down the unit. Rheem considers this a 'flooded' unit and it voids the warranty. Excuse me, they call it 'bypassed', as in the warranty is 'bypassed' because of the 'flooding'. The tech that came out to fix my unit when it died after only a month immediately said "It rained hard this weekend, it's probably got water in the bottom". He was right, it took about 2 minutes to fix by vacuuming out the water. But, Rheem will not cover the 'repair' and has 'bypassed' the warranty and will not cover any future failure no matter what the failure is.

"Residential Gas Water Boiler"
I own the Rheem residential gas water heater. This is the first time I have used this company and I am pleasantly surprised. It is a very good water heater for the price. I highly recommend this company. Also the warranty on it is just what I need. If you plan on purchasing a water heater for your home this is the perfect choice. In all the time I have owned this water heater it has never let me down. In the three years of ownership it has never broken down or needed any type of repairs. I honestly can not say there is anything wrong with this water heater. I have owned some larger brand water heaters, before however there have been some problems with them and with this boiler there is nothing I can say wrong about it. For my second home I will definitely purchase the same company water heater again. Really if anyone needs a water heater they should at least try this company once and I guarantee they will not be unhappy with the purchase. I have recommended this company's water heaters to all my friends and family.

"Hot water every time all the time!"
Recently my old water heater gave up and started leaking water. I found myself in need of a new one and Rheem stepped up. At first I was hesitant to go with a water heater that was like my last one but I'm glad I did. The Rheem has been very efficient and has done everything it promised and more. Hot water is on demand immediately and the gas bill has decreased considerably. The installation was a breeze and I am sure anyone with a couple of tools could do it themselves. From the manufacturer the warranty is absolutely excellent and you can better believe that if something was to go astray Rheem would fix it. It's been so great that I've hardly given it much thought, I'm sure it'll last me many more years to come if not for the rest of my years.

"Worst water heater ever"
I will never buy another Rheem product. The unit is less than two weeks old and after two service calls and numerous phone calls to Rheem, it still does not work.

"All the hot water you need and more!"
This water heater is amazing! We have only had it a few weeks, but life is much more enjoyable these days with plenty of steaming hot water from every tap. My wife enjoys baths and long showers and now she can indulge herself as long as she wants. If I need to do dishes at the same time? No problem. She does not even notice it. This is a huge improvement over our old water heater. I should say, I have not received a power bill since we have bought this. If it's crazy, I will update this review to say so, but I think this heater is efficient; that is what they told me at the store. I am a handy, can-do kind of guy and installation was fast and easy and pretty simple. Getting it home, well, that is another thing - it's not small. It's just great for the two of us. I would certainly buy this brand again.

"Replaced a 25-year-old Rheem"
So far this new Rheem is working great. Heats up quickly, I don't know how much electricity it's going to use. This replaces a 25-year-old Rheem. If this one lasts even a 1/3 of the old one it will be well worth the money. Seems well built. The only thing I'm not happy about is it's made in Mexico.

"No problems yet!"
I have currently owned this water heater for 6 years, after my first one went down. It was a pretty simple installation; it took less than two hours to install it after I bought it from Lowe's. At first I thought the unit was too small for the house, but it was more than adequate for my needs. The heater responds to use very quickly, and I can get hot water going through in about 8-10 minutes. I have recommended them to several friends, some who have changed to a Rheem in the past year or so. They have also been very happy with their heaters. The only issue with my heater is that the pilot went out just about every week, forcing me to go downstairs to turn it back on. It straightened itself out after about a month. I love everything about this heater; I wouldn't change a thing about it.

"Best heater ever"
So I bought this hot water heater a year ago when my hot water heater took a dump and failed out on me. It literally exploded and flooded the room it was in. I got this electric hot water heater and I am very impressed with it indeed. This thing comes with a six year limited tank and parts warranty plus a 1 year home warranty. The tank itself provides forty gallons of hot water which is more than enough for my family's needs. It has a decent profile with respect to tank size and fits well in the room where the old tank was. I've found that the tank doesn't really increase my electric bill over what the old one cost me, which is nice as well. My wife loves this thing because it makes plenty of hot water and works extremely well. It was also decently priced for what it is, which was the big selling point for me. The only dislike would be I want a bigger one, but that'd take up too much room. I would recommend, and I would buy again.

"Keeps the water hot"
My old water heater was on its last legs about six months ago. It was an older model heater and it wasn't doing a great job of heating anything. The water stopped being as hot as it once was, so I decided to get rid of the old one and look for something new. I chose this model because it was reasonably priced, and it wasn't too big. It also has an automatic thermostat which keeps the water at your desired temperature, which is great. I was just looking for a solid heater that would do the job that it's supposed to; nothing fancy or too expensive. I'm satisfied with it and there haven't been any problems so far, not that I expect there to be. If you're looking for a solid heater that gets the job done, then you really can't go wrong with this one. And that's why I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

"New water heater"
We have owned this water heater for about seven months now and it has been great. Our previous water heater was always running out so we upgraded to a 50 gallon tank and it has been perfect for our family. No more cold showers even with multiple people showering in succession. When it does run out it heats up quickly. I am very happy with our new water heater. Installation was a breeze, no problems there. We have not had to make any repairs and it is maintenance free. I cannot speak much about its longevity because we have only owned it for a few months but it does have a 6-year warranty so that provides some peace of mind.

"Quality and Convenience"
I've owned the Rheem Performance 40 gallon water heater for nearly a year now. Rheem is a brand I trust, and my last water heater was a Rheem as well. This model is quiet, efficient and was very easy to install.

"Home Water Heater Review"
We purchased our house a few years ago and it came with all of the major appliances, including our Rheem water heater. I adore this heater. It regulates my water's temperature very well. In the mornings when my family is using hot water getting ready, I am still able to get hot water after everyone has used it before me. We did have an issue with a seal busting several months ago but it was a cheap and simple fix. I would absolutely buy this machine again and would recommend it to anyone in a smaller family home. Quite honestly I haven't had any dislikes about this product. Though it supports a 40 gallon tank, its pretty discreet and doesn't make noise at all.

"Rheem Gas Water Heater does well"
My wife and I recently (6 months ago) decided to upgrade the water heater in our home given that the previous water heater was very old and inefficient. After some researching we decided on the Rheem Performance 40 gallon gas water heater. The model has done very well, it supplies ample hot water for us and our daughter. There have been instances where we all shower in succession where we will run out of hot water, but that is rare. Our gas bill per month has decreased, indicating that the heater is more efficient than our previous heater. I would like it to be a bit more efficient though. We have not had any issues yet that would require repair and it has had great reliability and performance. I would recommend this brand and model to a friend. I think if I were to buy a water heater again I would stick with the brand but see if there is anything that has improved efficiency over this model.

"This is an awesome unit!"
I have owned this water heater for 3 years. The one we had prior was extremely old and had been in our house prior to me and my wife buying it. It doesn't take very long for it to heat up water and is somewhat energy efficient. The only thing me and my wife do not like about it is the capacity. We wish it was a bit bigger but this is the biggest one we could get and the only one that would fit in our house without having to do a serious overhaul of the current storage place .

"Consistant and Reliable water temperature"
I've had this water heater for over one year and couldn't be happier with its performance. The temperature is consistent throughout its use and provides a quick response when turning on the hot water. I haven't needed any repairs or encountered any problems since I've been using this specific model. I also take quick showers and live by myself so that may have some influence on my decision.

"Excellent and Economical Water Boiler"
Our previous water heater, which came with the house when we bought it, recently died. It must have been in there for at least 25 years. We always ran into issues with not enough hot water, or with it taking to long make hot water. When it finally died we knew that it was sign to purchase a new one. We went to the nearest Home Depot about 3 months ago and purchased the Rheem 40 Gallon model. This was more than sufficient for our small family. Removal of the old water heater took more time than it did to install our new model. Installation was quick and painless and in short order we were taking hot showers again. In the short time that we've owned the unit, we've never run out of hot water, our energy bill has gone down slightly due to the more efficient design of the new unit and we're happy to say it was the best decision we have made. I'd recommend this unit to anybody looking for a new or replacement unit.

"An excellent water heater for a small family"
We've owned this water heater since April of last year, so it's been just over a year now. It's a 40 gallon, two-element water heater. The box was small enough to fit in the back of our mini-van, and I wired it in to the electric box myself. The installation was very straightforward. I had it up and running in one afternoon. It's been a great unit for our family. There are three adults here and one child and we never run out of hot water. As soon as about a gallon is run from the unit, it begins reheating again, so the thermostat is very responsive. If you take too long of a shower after someone else or while someone is washing dishes, it might cool off a little, but so far no one has had to take a cold shower. At just over a year, it's still pretty new, so I don't know how long it will last, but so far so good. It hasn't required any maintenance. I would buy this unit again and I'd recommend this unit to anyone looking for a simple to install water heater that provides trouble-free operation.

"My review on the Rheem Water heater"
I have owned my Rheem water heater for about 2 years and I love it. I work at Home Depot so when I had to replace my old one because it had a water leak I asked them what they would prefer. They suggested Rheem because they have sold so many and they have so many good reviews. I had to get a cheaper one because I could not afford the more expensive ones. I also had to look into the size because I could only have one so big to fit in the spot it needed to go. I would buy this type again because I have had no issues with it and there are so many people where I work that have them as well and love them too. I would definitely recommend it to any of my friends or coworkers because it is such a good product.
Other Performance Reviews
There are very few online comments regarding the Rheem Performance water heater on HVAC forums. A consumer on terrylove.com asked for opinions about the Performance versus the Performance Plus and Performance Platinum, with the majority of responses favoring the Platinum. The main reason listed was the higher energy factor.
The warranty for the Rheem Performance water heater is comprised of the following:
- 6-year tank warranty
- 6-year parts warranty
- 1-year full in-home labor warranty
