Harman P68 Pellet Stove Overview

The Harman P68 Pellet Stove is largest and most expensive in Harman’s P series. However, both the Q and R series are more expensive than the P series. It possesses the capability to a heat a home in the range of 1,500 – 3,900 square feet. The stove’s width by height by depth measurements are: 23 ½ ” x 37 ½ ” x 29 ⅜ ”. The P68 comes equipped with a variable speed blower and a 76 pound hopper, as well as having a hopper extension available as an extra feature. The extension is 60 pounds. The P68 also offers decorative touches as extra features, as well as a cast iron hearth pad to protect the floor.

There is a hidden control panel on the side of the stove. This is where the user can set the heat, and Harman claims the stove will maintain the set heat to within 1 degree. This is done using and Exhaust Sensing Probe system. The ESP system constantly monitors heat and adjusts.

A chimney is not required for this stove, as it is direct vent. Harman claims the glass viewing area is cleaner thanks to an air wash system, and the ash pan does not need to be emptied as frequently due to its size.

Harman uses PelletPro ™ technology. This is a system with which the user can burn any grade of pellet fuel at maximum efficiency.

The P68 is priced at $4,219 on the Harman website. This is before any features are added.

Environmental Impact

The Harman P68 Pellet Stove is EPA certified under the 2015 Standards of Performance for New Residential Wood Heaters. EPA looked at a range of stoves, whose pollution (grams/hour) ranged from .5 – 4.5. The P68 checked in at 1.3, rating on the cleaner end.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance

Most of the issues covered in the troubleshooting portion of the manual covers issues with the fire, the hopper, or the fuel. The manual notes if there is a large flame when the stove fires up, it will settle down once the fire is established.

If the stove is not feeding, the manual says it could be due to five things:

  • There is no fuel in the hopper.
  • The sensor for the feeding switch is not operating. This manual advises checking for closed doors, loose or missing gaskets, and the hopper lid.
  • The feed motor is not running. It’s possible not enough fuel or gel was loaded.
  • There is an obstruction in the hopper. The manual advises emptying the hopper and clearing the obstruction.
  • The feed motor has failed.

If fuel is only being partially burned, this could be a result of one or a combination of the following:

  • The feed rate is too high.
  • The air to fuel mixture is off. The manual suggests checking the burn pot and cleaning out the cover and air intake.
  • The burn pot or the heat exchangers may need to be changed.

I have owned a Harmon P68 for one year now. I live in Arkansas in about a $250,000 dollar home. I have a living room with vaulted ceilings. The stove is the centerpiece of the home. It is beautiful, generating lots of heat always. It is dependable and, unlike a woodstove, I do not have to sit there and constantly tend the fire. It is much less work and much less heat. I use a paintbrush that takes about one hour every month to clean the stove. It is very easy. This is the most superior, well thought-out heating mechanism there is. I would strongly recommend this stove. I wish I had purchased it ten years earlier.

"Harman Pellet stoves for right heating"

Hi, I have been using Harman pellet stove for my home for last six months and I have been very satisfied with it. I like that it is very easy to use and is good in heating the whole atmosphere. I also got a discount on the purchase. I would definitely recommend it to my friends to buy it. I am sure it will not disappoint anyone. In the last six months I haven't had a problem yet. Anyone who wants to buy a heating stove should go ahead with this brand. Best of luck. It was suggested to me by my friend Nancy. She herself is in complete appreciation of this stove. I am happy to listen to her words. My husband is also in appreciation of this product. You can get it installed with a direct vent outside. Nothing to worry , it's a safe bet. It is cost effective and durable. It also comes in different variants. Check it out before you decide on your purchase.

Harman is known for its over built and well made stoves. Have had mine for roughly 5 years now. Only thing I have had to replace is the ESP probe. As with most branded stuff the part itself was pricey for what it is but I haven't had any issues since replacing it. Everything else has been flawless. Clean it once a week, pull the over sized dust pan when needed. The hopper holds almost 2 full bags. Easily gets it through the day and night even in the coldest months. It currently keeps my 2600 2 story home nice and toasty all winter all on its own. Can get below 70 degrees on those nights of -10F in the far end of the house but this is mostly due to air movement. If I had to do it again I would buy another Harman this thing is amazing. I set the temp and it does the work. Off and on when needed, no need to idle. Saves a lot of pellets in the spring and fall.
