York Diamond 80 Furnace Overview

The discontinued York Diamond 80 was a single-stage gas furnace with an 80% AFUE rating. It features a computerized blower motor for even air circulation, a tubular heat exchanger, an integrated computerized control system, and an induced combustion system to promote quiet operation.

The Diamond 80 was available in up-flow/horizontal and down-flow models and was made of a thin structure, allowing it to fit into narrow spaces. The unit also featured a pre-painted, corrosion-resistant steel cabinet for maximum protection.

In 1997, York International recalled the 80 downflow mid-efficiency furnaces with model numbers starting with P2DP, PBKD, and XED02. Faulty gluing of the insulation surrounding the heat exchanger, potentially causing the cabinet wall to fall on the heat exchanger and start a fire led to the recall which covered 21,000 units.

York Diamond 80 Furnace Reviews

"Review of the York Diamond 80 Furnace"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

My York Diamond 80 furnace was installed in my home when it was built, in 1998. I purchased the home in 2004 and have done little to no work on the furnace itself. The York Diamond 80 has consistently, without fail, heated our home through the coldest Midwestern winters. I’ve enjoyed the reliability of having a furnace that works from the first days of winter, through the last cold days of early spring. Over the ten years I’ve owned my current home, the only part that I’ve replaced, besides the filter, is having a new igniter installed just a few days ago after discovering it was blowing cool air. The cost of the part itself was less than $60 and I watched the serviceman replace the part, which only required the removal of a front plate and a handful of screws. After the new part was installed, the furnace has run without issue. More recently, we purchased a new home, built in 2004, and I was pleased to see that our new house also had a York Diamond 80 furnace. I would recommend that others, looking for a new furnace, consider the York Diamond 80 because it has been so reliable and easy to repair in the 10 years I’ve owned one.

I’ve had my York Diamond 80 for over 13 years and had absolutely no problems with it. I have a maintenance contract with a local h/c company which checks it out twice a year. If you maintain your unit your problems are minimal.

Why do they go throw memory boards so often? I put one on about once a year: parts and labor: $196.00.

Had a York furnace installed when we built our new home. Uggggg! Problems every year. We eventually got a new service company and they confirmed our fears, too many of the York systems are not so good. We got one of the systems they said they see allot of issues with, Were replacing the entire set-up next week. We chose Trane after looking at Carrier and Lennox also. We’ll see, many of our neighbors have Trane and they have had no problems.

Question and Answer

What does an error code of 7 flashes on a York Diamond 80 furnace mean?

This means ignition could not be established because it could not sense the flame. Likely causes of this are a dirty or faulty flame sensor or a problem with the control board.

On a York Diamond 80 Bottom Air Return Furnace which way should the airflow go on the filter?

On 2014-11-19 Danielle wrote:

For the York Diamond 80 furnace if your filter is located on the bottom or side in a filter frame then your furnace is upflow. See below for a chart of replacement filters for your unit. Once you know the air flow configuration just measure the width of the cabinet and it will match to the correct replacement filter.
