York Diamond 80 Furnace Overview
The discontinued York Diamond 80 was a single-stage gas furnace with an 80% AFUE rating. It features a computerized blower motor for even air circulation, a tubular heat exchanger, an integrated computerized control system, and an induced combustion system to promote quiet operation.
The Diamond 80 was available in up-flow/horizontal and down-flow models and was made of a thin structure, allowing it to fit into narrow spaces. The unit also featured a pre-painted, corrosion-resistant steel cabinet for maximum protection.
In 1997, York International recalled the 80 downflow mid-efficiency furnaces with model numbers starting with P2DP, PBKD, and XED02. Faulty gluing of the insulation surrounding the heat exchanger, potentially causing the cabinet wall to fall on the heat exchanger and start a fire led to the recall which covered 21,000 units.
