York’s Affinity line consists of two gas furnaces: the Affinity YPLC, offering 80% AFUE, and the 98% AFUE Affinity YP9C. Winner of the Consumers Digest “Best Buy” award, the 98% AFUE YP9C is Energy Star rated and has a multi-position configuration.
Both the high-efficiency and base-line unit use a variable speed EMC blower motor for quiet, efficient operation and a modulating design that constantly adjusts heating levels for maximum comfort.
Additional components of the Affinity series include: reinforced cabinets, gasket doors, and York’s Climatrak Comfort System, a feature that customizes operation to the conditions of any region. With its compact 33-inch height, the Affinity series can also fit into tight spots around the home.
Along with the current YPLC and YP9C series, there are several discontinued series in the Affinity furnace line, including the Affinity 8.S, with an efficiency of 80% AFUE; Affinity 8.V, also offering an efficiency of 80% AFUE; Affinity 9V, with a 92% AFUE; and the Affinity 8.T.
You will notice when you read the reviews that the 5 stars are from people who recently purchased a unit. Yes, the furnace works great in the beginning. When you get into year 7, the problems begin. I bought a York furnace 9 years ago and have had multiple expensive issues since that time. The latest repair was $3,000. On Thursday, I am looking at other companies to completely replace it. Too bad that I am still paying on it and will be for another 5 years. I am also part of the class action suit against York.
"Learn From Our Misfortune"
We bought a new York Affinity furnace and AC for a new house, and it broke almost immediately. We have owned it 8 years now, and have had over 6 service calls on it for faulty parts and breakdowns. The company covered some of the faulty parts, but not the cost of service which has totaled over $1900. so far, and we just had another fuel switch breakdown this weekend and needed another service call. We finally bought a service contract with the Rochester, NY heating business to cover all of these service calls – and of course we have to pay for the service contract. Also, we just received a letter about a Class Action suit against York because of all the faulty furnace and AC units. Do not buy a York furnace or air conditioner!

"So sad. Why don’t they just sell us an upgrade package to replace the faulty parts?"
It worked great for two years. The burner and mother board were replaced under warranty in the third year. I have had seven HVAC people come from three different companies. Some multiple times. All I want is heat. Why don’t you sell a patch or repair upgrade? I am not rich. I cannot afford a new system. It gets cold in the winter. Don’t you care? Why not become “The furnace people with a warm heart”?

"No heat furnace"
Furnace was installed new in June of 2013 and has broken down twice. Annual maintenance was done 3 months ago but the first time it’s turned on it doesn’t work. I will never buy a York product again.

This is a very quiet furnace. The fan blows most of the time, but I never hear it. It is also very efficient. I would certainly by another York furnace.
Generally, the Affinity series is regarded as a high quality product across the web. Hvac-for-beginners.com gives the product line its highest rating for efficiency, comfort, and solid warranty. Gasfuranceguide.com also notes the product’s attractive design, quiet operation, and efficiency.
A consumer thread on hvac-talk.com carries more mixed reviews of the product. A handful of people express frustration with their Affinity furnaces. Multiple malfunctions, including odd noises and loud vibrations were among the complaints. Poor customer service with York service contractors also added to the list of issues.
Others on the thread report no problems with Affinity line and site poor contractors as the potential source of system issues.
York Affinity Model Numbers
The Affinity is available in different models which vary in efficiency and capacity.

The Affinity series carries a 10-year limited parts and lifetime heat exchanger warranty. The product must be registered online within 90 days of installation. Failure to register within the allotted time frame results in a 5-year parts warranty.
Both models also carry the Good Housekeeping Seal, which guarantees product replacement or refund if the product is found defective within 2 years.
