The York GCGD is a discontinued split-system air conditioner with an efficiency of 13 SEER. A high pressure relief valve and a temperature sensor protected the unit’s compressor from high pressure and temperature, and a liquid-line filter drier protected against moisture and debris. It featured a condenser coil constructed of aluminum tubing and fins for increased efficiency. A rigid top panel and isolator mounted compressor helped keep sound levels as low as 72 decibels. The unit was protected by a painted galvanized steel cabinet which was pre-treated to resist corrosion. The GCGD used R-22 refrigerant.
Easy install, great performance, reasonable price, good warranty, professional installer. Installer was on time, with the equipment I needed. Equipment has performed great. Installer covered each aspect of the warranty, and operation of the new unit.

My neighbor's York unit seemed very quiet to me. So I agreed with the contractor's selection of a 2.5 ton York. To my ears my newer unit, by 3 years, is noisier than my neighbors. Also, when is shuts off, it sometimes makes a loud bang noise. The contractor has been out and he is attentive. Says he may have to replace a part called a contactor. I still am bothered by the decibel level and worried about the loud bang when it shuts off. Other reviews have mentioned the 'loud bang'. I do not think I will buy another York.

Our central air was installed in May of 2013. Last year we had to have it recharged and our tech thought it might be a leak. Here it is June in Arizona. Our air conditioner is not working. We are told it needs a new compressor which is under our extended warranty. But our warranty only covers parts. Labor is estimated to be $1,245. This is 31% of the cost we paid for an air conditioner and new furnace. We paid $4,000 for the new AC and new heating unit installed. I am also wondering how long this new compressor will last. I should have kept the e sportive cooler. It was a whole lot cheaper.

Very Satisfied
Our contractor replaced our old AC unit with this one and it runs quieter, seems to use less electricity and is doing a great job. The install went smooth. Very pleased (I'm a lung cancer survivor with one lung living in the humid Mississippi woods, cool circulating air is a must for me). My contractor was awesome and the unit seems to live up to expectations so far.
