York’s Champion series is a single-package heating and cooling system offering up to 10.5 SEER and 80.4 percent AFUE. Although no longer manufactured today, the unit was produced in the past in more than 20 different units. This outdoor model can be mounted on a rooftop or ground-level slab. The Champion series uses electricity for air-conditioning and propane or natural gas for heating. Electric heating models also are available.
With a rigid top panel and base pan to reduce vibration noise, the Champion was designed for quiet operation. A mounted compressor on rubber isolators and noise dampening fin coils also contribute to low sound levels.
Additional features of this unit include a durable compressor that is designed with extra protection from high temperatures and pressures, copper tubing coils, hardened aluminum fins, a decorative grill that also protects the interior components, and a permanently lubricated fan motor. The unit also is protected by a galvanized steel cabinet, finished with a powder-paint coating designed to resist corrosion and fading.
Very quiet and have air and forced air heater too. 2 1/2 years old no problems yet.

Never in my life have I encountered such a crappy A/C! My previous brand lasted well over 20 years! This one I got in 2005 and every year since then have had repairs! Leakage of oil and Freon the first year. Not to mention the squealing/squeaking noises which could not be fixed because the A/C guy never heard them! (Always happens when they aren't around!) Then, the compressor fan becomes loose and needs to be tightened. All this in the first 3 years! The squealing noise still continued and nothing could be found wrong! Eventually, out of embarrassment, I stopped calling about the squealing noise. Never have I saved on my electric bill either; it costs more than the previous old AC with no fancy stuff to it! Fast forward to the past 3 years (yes, I complained about the squealing noise again). Nothing wrong! Finally, though, the motor blew and cost $900 after a checkup that said it was working fine! Then, the compressor fan just stopped, which stopped the squealing! Defective from the very very start! Shame on you York for creating an A/C that is pure garbage!

I am a contractor and have been in the trade for 35 years. We sold york for about 8 months before we stopped. They were giving us a bad name. Had to do repairs on most of them in the first year, some more than twice.

We have a York that we bought 6 years ago it has always made a lot of noise. Well, Saturday we smelled something burning and could not find where the fire was went out to see smoke coming from the roof the module was on fire. It is model number d2na060n06506nxd and am thinking from the serial number ngnm098u38 that they must of sold me a unit that was several years old. Am I right?

Other Champion Reviews
Happy customers, and contractors, point out the reliability, efficiency, and user-friendly design of this model. Most of the reviews on consumer forums revolved around the durability of this long-operating model. For example, one contractor posting on hvac-talk.com says that the Champion units “live up to their name.” He points out he has performed regular servicing on Champions well past their 20th year and still running reliably. Another homeowner points out on this forum that his Champion ran quietly for nearly 30 years before he had to consider a replacement.
This longevity can pose a problem, however. As a contractor complains on this site, when providing repairs to several townhouses–all with 20-plus-year-old Champions installed–even minor repairs can be challenging on units whose parts are dated.
