York Affinity air conditioners are available in the three models: the 18 SEER CZH, the 16 SEER CZF and the 13 SEER TCHD.
The CZH is a single-phase unit with a two-stage compressor. The fan motor is made with the manufacturer’s QuietDrive technology, which York explains minimizes sound production from the fan’s operation through the fan blade design and position of the compressor compartment. Available in 2- to 5-ton capacity models, the CZH is Energy Star-qualified.
The CZF air conditioner is also a single-phase unit with QuietDrive technology that has earned the Energy Star. The York TCHD is available as a single- or three-phase unit ranging in capacity from 1.5 to 5 tons. Its coil is made with MicroChannel Coil technology that enables the TCHD to reach 13 SEER while using less refrigerant than other models.
York air conditioner is junk. Bought the York modulating furnace and Affinity air conditioner in summer of 2015. Air conditioner broke in the summer of 2016, so it was replaced. August 2018, the second unit broke down, so it was replaced 5 weeks later. Now I'm expected to pay the labor for installing and diagnosing the problem. I understand that there is only 1 year warranty on labor, but this is ridiculous ($1,300.00). Three air conditioners in 3 years. Stay away from York.
"AC Compressor shuts off every 3 weeks"
I have a 16 seer 2 stage Affinity series that we had installed 8/15/2015. I live in Utah, so the unit gets used from late May through mid September. I got 2 summers out of this unit, but in June of 2018, it started shutting off on its own. The error code is low pressure switch cut off, but I've had 3 technicians come look at it and they say that everything is fine; system, refridgerant level, etc. Regardless, every 3 weeks, it shuts off again and I have to reset the whole system. The warranty only covers parts and since nobody can find anything wrong, I just burn money having people diagnose nothing. I hate this ac unit! I've had far cheaper units last 20 years. I haven't even gotten 3 out of this one.
"No trouble at all"
I have had a York Affinity 2 speed in my house for 4 years and have not had any trouble with it at all. I would recommend the brand to anyone and would buy another.
Wednesday August 30 2017, 12:00 pm Our York A/C is roughly 6 or so years old. It only worked maybe 2 years before needing an expensive type "410a" refrigerant re-fill, and more in recent years. Our service company found it had a badly leaking "coil" in our unit outside. It was full of holes causing the leaks. Now, a year later we are told the "coil" upin our attic is leaking like a sieve and are looking at over $1000 to replace it !! York "coils" seem to have serious manufacturing defects? This is not a motor, valve, switch, or something with moving parts that can wear out. Its just a "thing" and I liken it to the "case" surrounding our outdoor unit. What real mechanical work does it do? Why should it fail so quickly?

"Stay away from york units"
We purchased 2 York units (one in 2012 and one in 2014) and also purchased the 10 year Labor and Parts "York Care Comfort Plan." We were told that the plan would cover everything for 10 years. Today, we switched over to heat and got nothing but cold air. It's a natural gas unit. Called the business we purchased it from and they went out of business. Called another York Rep and they came out and they have to order parts to fix a problem in a 2 year old unit. The problem is that we are now being charged $69 diagnostic charges which I feel York should pay for when the unit went bad. But after calling the UPG Warranty department, I was told that the warranty does not cover diagnostics. If a unit goes down (especially in 2 years) then the warranty should cover the diagnostics. Will never purchase another York unit.
According to reviews on voices.yahoo.com, York’s Affinity is a good choice for consumers looking for an energy-efficient unit. However, contractors on gardenweb.com, when asked whether the Affinity might be comparable to another manufacturer’s similar unit, advice going with another unit for its supposedly better features.
The Affinity models CZH and CZF come with a 10-year parts limited warranty and a lifetime limited compressor warranty when installed with matched York systems. The CZH offers the option of a Premium system warranty or 10-year limited compressor warranty. These warranties are contingent upon the homeowners completing registration within 90 days of installation. Otherwise, the warranties revert to 5-year limited parts coverage.
The single-phase TCHD air conditioner, with 90-day registration, is protected by a warranty for 10-years on parts and the compressor. The three-phase TCHD models have a 1-year parts and 5-year warranty on the compressor.
