Air conditioner overview
There are two main types of YORK air conditioners: split-system and package unit. A split-system air conditioner includes a metal, weather-resistant cabinet that sits outside your home and holds the compressor and condenser. An interior cabinet houses the evaporator, often alongside a furnace or the indoor parts of a heat pump.
If you don’t have much space inside your home, consider a package unit. All of the unit’s components are packaged into a single outdoor unit, which can be installed on your roof or on an exterior concrete pad.
When selecting a central air conditioner, pay attention to its SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating. This number is the cooling output divided by the amount of electrical energy the unit consumes. A higher SEER number reflects a more energy-efficient unit. All new air conditioners need a SEER of at least 13.

Care and maintenance
Regularly maintaining your air conditioner can boost its efficiency and extend its lifespan. Change the filter every 30 to 60 days, or more often if you suffer from allergies or have several furry pets. Remove debris and clutter from around the outdoor components of your air conditioner on a regular basis. Clean the coil fins if they become noticeably dirty, and use a fin comb to straighten any bends. Periodically dust the indoor vents. Schedule professional service once per year.
York air conditioner warranties
In general, YORK products carry a 10-year limited warranty on parts. Affinity series split-system air conditioners also have a limited lifetime warranty on the compressor. Additional warranties may also apply, depending on the specific type and model of air conditioner you choose. Check with your dealer for specific details regarding your warranty. Labor charges are not included in standard warranties, but extended warranties may be available through your dealer.
