Westinghouse FT4BF Heat Pumps | FurnaceCompare®

Westinghouse FT4BF Heat Pump Overview

The Westinghouse FT4BF is a two-stage, Energy Star rated heat pump which delivers up to 16 SEER cooling and 9.0 HSPF heating. It features a Copeland scroll UltraTech compressor and a CoreSense Technology control module which monitors the compressor and can shut the unit down if harmful conditions are detected. A compressor sound blanket and swept-wing fan blade help keep sound levels as low as 75 decibels. A common service suction port, along with side access panels to the compressor and all controls, make servicing the unit easier. The unit’s galvanized steel cabinet has a polyester urethane finish with 950-hour salt spray protection, and a composite base pan absorbs sound and is corrosion resistant.

Westinghouse FT4BF Heat Pump Reviews

"FT4BF 16 SEER 4 Ton heat pump"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

We have had our Westinghouse heat pump running non-stop in extreme St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada winter climates for the past 9 years. It has dropped our electricity rates by over 60%. It is extremely quiet, and keeps our house very comfortable. We get fantastic service from our local dealer and have had no problems with our unit. We do keep it annually maintained and it is continuing to keep us warm all winter long even in the 100 km/hr windstorms we've had the past three days. I recommend this brand, and more notably our dealer Atlantic Heat Pumps to everyone we meet. I will definitely buy another Westinghouse heat pump.

"Junk, junk, junk, junk"

Nothing but problems! Does not run when needed–gas cycle is only heating working. I would never buy or recommend Westinghouse products. Whatever happened to their slogan "You can be sure if it's Westinghouse!" With the cost of this new furnace, AC, heat pump, I really expected so much more quality. The supplier has been dragging his feet as far as warranty replacement and getting me the correct rebate information to get submitted to my energy provider for my $450.00 rebate. Sick of the whole process.

"4-year-old Westinghouse heat pump review"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

I had my Westinghouse heat pump installed in October of 2010 and have been very satisfied with it. It is a 16 seer model with a 2 stage compressor. A circuit board had to be replaced last winter because the outdoor unit was not defrosting properly, but I haven't had any other problems. My electric bills have been greatly reduced – especially in the winter months, for some reason – but overall maybe by 50% over the a/c that I had when my house was originally built. This one is also much quieter than the other one I had.

"Too many issues"

My system is less than 5 years old and I've had to replace the outdoor fan motor, compressor capacitor and the defrost control board on the heat pump. The indoor air handler has also had the evaporator coil and TXV replaced. We have 2 systems in our home and this is the newest and most troublesome system that I have ever owned. Having worked in the HVAC distribution business for 20 years, I have not seen a more troublesome line of equipment. When the system is running it runs great, but they all do. In the future I will not be using a Nordyne product in my home.

Purchased a Westinghouse Heat Pump in 12/07/2008, Split systems model: ft4bf-06k/ftd080300162 Air handlers model: b4vm-x36k-b/b4d080105591 Since installation, we experienced problems after problem with our heating system. At first, the heat pump was not heating (winter 2008/2009) or cooling (summer 2009) properly. At installation, the installer gave us a 1-year warranty on the labor. However, after the first year we experienced more and more problems with the heat pump system. Here is some of the work done to the unit only in 2010 alone: July 2010 unit not cooling (loosing Freon, technician refills heat pump unit with Freon); October 2010 unit not heating (loosing Freon, technician refills heat pump unit with Freon); December 2010 unit not heating (Freon leaking ' technician replaces air handler heating coil); January2011 rubber burning smell coming from air handler unit, unit stops operating (electrical panel melted needs replacement). Since all this work has been done my Electric bill has doubles in kW usage from prior year: February bill for period of 12/13/2010 to 01/17/2011 goes up from 3069 kW (2010) to 6011 kW (2011); March bill for period of 01/17/2011 to 02/15/2011 goes up from 2847 kW (2010) to 4816 kW (2011). Call PECO (local electric co.) out to check the meter, no problem found. Meter working fine! Called the servicing company out again to check the unit and find out why my electric billed double in usage. Today the installer came to the house again and found out another part damaged: The Regulator Freon needs to be replaced. What next? You decide if its worth it!
