The Weil-McLain Ultra 3-UE is a discontinued gas boiler with an efficiency of up to 96.4% AFUE. It had a cast aluminum heat exchanger and a stainless steel burner for increased efficiency and cleaner combustion. The unit was designed to operate in low-temperature condensing applications, and a variable speed motor matched combustion output to heating needs. The Ultra 3-UE was designed for both wall-mount and floor-standing applications and was equipped with four adjustable boiler legs.
Several years ago a Weil Mclain Ultra 105 was installed in my home. This was done as part of a low income weatherization program by Ashland County Wisconsin. For the first year it ran well. Then problems started and have increased ever since. Now I cannot get parts, combustion exhaust is visible in the basement. I have to restart it at least once a day to get any heat. After talking to all the heating contractors within 50 miles (most wont touch them) I get the same consensus: the Weil McLain boilers are huge piles of crap. I have to agree. Now I find out a recall was put out on this particular model due to carbon monoxide poisoning risks dated October 2006 – Mine was installed years after the recall but falls in the serial number ranges of the faulty units. Now here I sit with a death sentence providing intermittent heat. In can't reinstall the old boiler, which worked fine, because the installing contractor destroyed it. The valve bank that was installed leaks (any additives have long since run out), had to replace the circulation pump after a year, boiler spews exhaust gas in the basement – gotta be leaking into the house. No money to replace and nowhere to go. Trying to contact Weil McLain is an exercise in futility. Took over 3 hours for a HVAC pro to get a call back from their tech support. I seems obvious that these boilers were known to be faulty but an opportunity came up to unload them on a county program so they were dumped on the unsuspecting public.
"My Weil-McLain Ultra Boiler is the best"
My Weil McLain Series 3 Ultra CT boiler is so quiet and on top of that it is so reliable. I suggest though if you are going to get one have a professional install it. My uncle installed ours and initially it didn't work properly and I had to end up calling a professional to get it right. After we got it set up right we haven't had a problem since. Actually I forget all about my Weil-McLain Ultra boiler in my house because it works perfectly. We clean it and service our boiler yearly. I clean and service it yearly and it is installed exactly per specifications. I live right near a supply house that carries both parts and products. From what I've found they are such a reliable company. I did have a question and a Weil-McLain rep called me back within a reasonable time period. Over the years this is the type of boiler I've always used and wouldn't use anything else. I would recommend it to anyone.
"Don't buy, it won't last!"
I purchased a Weil-Mclain boiler Ultra Series 3, to replace an old oil furnace in 2007. I had it serviced every year. This year, 2016, the heat exchanger exhaust pipe developed a hole somehow. According to my service man, it was a result of expansion and contraction. OK. The part was under warranty but the warranty didn't cover the cost to replace the part, or the associated parts that have to be changed to change the damaged part. The labor costs alone are $2570!That's just the labor. In addition to the labor, the additional parts are over $500! Do not buy this! Go do your research and read the other reviews! Beware!
"Great boiler, going on 7 years"
Sit and relax, this boiler does every thing it has to do. No problems whatsoever. Goes on when it has to, heats up beautifully, shuts off…what else do you need? And for maintenance, I've never had it done yet. Talked to the gas company, they told me that this boiler is not much to maintain. Look into it in another few years, l was told. If it isn't broke don't fix it, the old saying goes…
"Weil McLain Ultra Gas S3 CT Boiler"
I purchased this boiler a few months ago, after it was recommended that I get a new one because the last one was extremely old. The two most important factors that I was looking at were price and durability. I wanted to make sure that I was getting my moneys worth. I looked at a few different brands, but after suggestions from many employees at my local hardware store I went with Weil-McLain. I think I made an excellent choice in choosing the Ultra gas boiler. It has many convenient features like the quick system preset to match my appliances. The delivery time was quick, and it seemed to be working almost instantly. While I did end up spending more money than I was hoping to, I'm content in knowing that I bought an appliance that will last me for years. I would absolutely recommend a friend or family member who needs a new boiler to get a Weil-McLain
There are very few reviews of the Ultra 3-UE online. Among the few are a couple of posts on heatinghelp.com regarding problems with the units, with most members agreeing that the problems are due to installer error and not because of something wrong with the unit.
