The Viessmann Vitodens 200-W is a gas-fired, wall-mounted condensing boiler with an efficiency of up to 95% AFUE. The Vitodens 200-W was name an Energy Star Most Efficient 2016 product. The unit features a compact, lightweight design and, according to the manufacturer, is quieter than most refrigerators. It has an Inox-Radial stainless steel heat exchanger and provides low-emission combustion for environmentally friendly operation. The Vitodens 200-W features an intuitive control that manages the entire heating system, with a high-contrast, monochrome display that is easy to read in poor lighting conditions.
Installed in 2009 and repaired every year, sometimes three or four times a year, through 2014. It drives both heating and domestic hot water, in theory. But we are ready to trash this piece of garbage. The sensors fail. It leaks. The inlet air clogs with snow. It cannot produce enough water for a high volume shower. Take the high efficiency and shove it! The whole stupid idea of on-demand water is farcical. Toronto contractors are too stupid to install it or troubleshoot it. We've had trained technicians with 20 years experience scratch their balls all day long staring at the unit, charging $100 per hour to vacuum the dust off. The error codes require a degree in mechanical engineering to comprehend. Buy something as simple as a potbelly stove because when you have problems with the electronics, you will be alone. This unit might be good for a studio apartment in Berlin, but not for a house in Canada.
Hello, I am very unhappy with Viessmann (or the total lack of) the company's service. It is not tailored to the Canadian country, where a service technician is not just around every corner, but for us about 250km away. Don't buy Viessmann boilers.
"7 year and very happy"
In 2006 my local heating guy talked me into the Veissmann Vitodens 200. It was enormously expensive but he managed to convince me it was worth it. I live in Canada and our winter days are regularly -20 C. On top of it I have quite a large home, 4,000 sq ft, built in the 1940's with almost no insulation. The radiators are still the original ones. The first thing I noticed was my gas bill was cut almost exactly in half and has stayed that way for the past 7 years. This alone was unbelievable. The extra I paid for the boiler was paid off in 3 years. After 7 years the boiler has more than paid for itself. The other thing I noticed is the quality and evenness of heat. Just beautiful. I just had to have my first repair last week. I am pleased to say it was only a few hundred dollars, for a cracked insulating ring. I am embarrassed to say I did not get the furnace cleaned or maintained for 4 years. I travel a lot during the winter and the furnace is so quiet and problem-free that I just forgot. Yet, other than the cracked ring, not a single problem. I'm going to guess that most of the problems reported on here have to with the installers. This boiler is a tricky installation and you don't want to be the first boiler installed by someone who just finished taking the installation course. My neighbor, with a similar house to mine, went with Triangle Tube and has had nothing but problems.
"First the main circulation pump failed, then the radial fan motor and poor parts availability"
The main circulation pump failed the first year of operation and it took three days to get a replacement pump. Then six years late the combustion fan failed. Three days later and a $2,000.00 bill, the unit was back-up and running. Conclusion, in seven years the two most important and most costly components failed. These units are too fragile, too complicated, too difficult to get repair parts and too costly to be considered for my new building project.
Had this very expensive best boiler available for seven years. Contact faults replaced two times the $1,000.00 main board. Now not working with fault 14. Will not light. Can't get anyone to stand behind it. Do not buy one of these. Having it priced now to replace it with a new boiler.
Online comments regarding the Vitodens 200-W appear to be mostly positive. There are several posts on sites such as heatinghelp.com and diynot.com discussing the unit. Many of these posts are from homeowners asking for opinions on the 100-W and the 200-W, and it seems that more professionals prefer the 200-W, although both are referred to as good units.
In a comparison of the Vitodens 200-W and a similar Triangle Tube unit on heatinghelp.com, most members chose the Triangle Tube, although both were described as good units. In response to consumers on hvac-talk.com and doityourself.com thinking of installing Veissmann boilers, members stated that the Vitodens 200-W is an excellent unit.
