The Viessmann Vitodens 200-W is a gas-fired, wall-mounted condensing boiler with an efficiency of up to 95% AFUE. The Vitodens 200-W was name an Energy Star Most Efficient 2016 product. The unit features a compact, lightweight design and, according to the manufacturer, is quieter than most refrigerators. It has an Inox-Radial stainless steel heat exchanger and provides low-emission combustion for environmentally friendly operation. The Vitodens 200-W features an intuitive control that manages the entire heating system, with a high-contrast, monochrome display that is easy to read in poor lighting conditions.
We've had our boiler for over 10 years now and it has never had a single parts failure, which is surprising as it isn't piped in the most ideal fashion (either primary-secondary or low-loss header). It's just piped in series running in slab heating (with a basic, fairly primitive mixing arrangement) in the basement and panel radiators on the main & second floors. I do open up the combustion chamber every other year and give the heat exchanger a good scrub down with citri solv and water. It even saved our house from tipping over when we had to get it jacked up to replace the crumbling foundation. We left the boiler & related piping connected to a sheet of plywood hanging from the main floor joists and one of the temporary supports gave way while the house was being lowered back into place but was stopped by the boiler getting jammed between the central beam and the floor joists. It survived with a bit of frame bending and fired right back up like nothing happened once the broken piping was repaired! I'll definitely be upgrading to a new Vitodens when this one finally gives up the ghost which might be later than sooner.

"Solid Viessmann Vitodens 200-W Boiler"
I've owned this boiler for about 6 years now without any issues thus far. It is a solid no hassle unit that has needed little work over the years. I am still utilizing the same radiators that came with it as well. The only thing that I didn't like so far was that it was a little bit pricey. Although with the money I am saving on my heating compared with the old unit, and with no maintenance, I am probably saving money at this point. If I ever had to replace the unit again, I would strongly consider a similar one, if not the same unit. We can have some pretty cold winters here in Virginia, and this unit has really stood up to the test so far. I have recommended the unit to a couple of friends of mine. I do recommended having it installed professionally as it is a bit difficult to install.
"Really unreliable, breaking down over and over again"
We have had this unit for 10 years now and it is always breaking down with high costs to repair – generally between $700 and $2000 each time. Also, there is never anyone trained to service it so this adds to the time and cost. And the parts for repair take literally weeks to be delivered (the last time it was 14 days in March – imagine not being able to shower or wash clothes for 14 days in March). I am extremely unhappy with this unit. Any savings from heating your house this way is taken up by repair costs and being inconvenienced for such long times. Do not buy this brand of tankless water heater. It has once again broken down on the coldest day of the year, -23 C. Oh, the stress it causes.
We have a boiler with a Viessmann indirect hot water tank. It had a leaking air valve and no parts were available. We fixed that and the next day we had no heat. The hot water works fine but there is no neat. The techs are clueless, the distributor and factory are useless. No heat for 5 days in December in Northern Massachusetts. It's supposed to be the best…not!
"Avoid, avoid, avoid, avoid"
Before you go out rushing to buy a Veissmann, be sure to know that repairs on this unit are so expensive that you may be better off buying a new unit at the time of repair. I've had this unit for 6 years and the recent repair for a fan replacement cost me $1700. The repair man tells me that I cannot just buy the fan unit, but I need to purchase the entire combustion unit. I am buying a new domestic unit and throwing the Veissmann into the garbage.
