Triangle Tube Prestige Trimax Solo Boiler Overview
The Triangle Tube Prestige Trimax Solo is a high-efficiency stainless steel wall-mounted gas boiler. The Prestige Trimax Solo is both ASME certified and Energy Star listed, and has a stainless steel heat exchanger which provides an efficiency rating of 95% AFUE. The Trimax Solo series offers quiet operation, higher water volume than competitive units, and comes with a digital control panel that controls up to four circulators. The boiler has a stainless steel premix burner and is available for natural gas or propane.
I have been in the plumbing and heating (pipefitting) trade for over 20 years now and the Triangle Tube high efficiency boiler has been a great boiler for us to install and service, when necessary. I have read some of the reviews on this site, and to be perfectly honest, it sounds as though the person/company installing these boilers had no idea what they were doing. How is it that a customer is blaming a boiler company? Where is your installer during this whole process? If the system had given them that much trouble, I am sure the Triangle Tube regional representative would have stepped in. I think the educated consumer realizes that you need pick a contractor not just on price, but on reputation, and Triangle Tube is at the top. I have recommended and installed their boiler system in countless homes, including my own. Do your research and I am sure you will find this boiler is a great product.
"On the fence"
I had a Triangle Tube Prestige Solo 250 boiler professional installed in 2010. The boiler ran very well until recently, when I got the dreaded e02 error message. The tech came out and said I needed a new ignition/ ignition cable. However, he could not remove the old one because the 2 screws holding it in had rusted. Now the tech is saying that he needs to replace the whole top plate of the unit, which seems unnecessary. I am sorry that I can't post a picture of the rust on this forum, but I am quite concerned that I am going to have problems similar to many others that have been posted here. This is a part that would need to be replaced on a somewhat regular basis. You would think a boiler located in a basement that pulls in air from the outside would be constructed in such a way that rust doesn't prevent the removal of parts after only 4 years. Calls and messages to the Triangle Tube company were unsuccessful.
"Triangle Tube Solo Trimax performance"
My crew and my customers have been very happy with the installation and performance of the Triangle Tube boilers. It has been a very quiet and reliable unit and we will continue to use them. The Control is very user friendly and informative.
"What a Headache"
I had my unit installed around 2010 when there were tax breaks offered for energy efficient upgrades, and I needed a new unit anyways. This unit was one that qualified. At the time I guess it was the latest and greatest. The tax breaks made me overlook the fact that the company only offers a one year warranty on its products-always a bad sign for a system of this cost. I think my toaster came with a longer warranty. Now four years later, I'm having the Eo2 failure to ignite. The reps had my heating guy adjusting the intake for the first three weeks, and would not give him any information beyond ignition settings. Finally they have given him more options to explore, but no luck so far. The latest suggestion required taking apart the top to clean out the system with a clr solution. Still don't know if that works since the seal is graphite and shattered when it was removed. Rep might could have mentioned that as a possibility so we could have had the part. Now waiting for the part with no hot water as usual and can't even reset the system without the seal in place. It could be I just got one of a few lemons of a system, but regardless I am not impressed with the manufacturer. I really did not notice any savings on my heating bill which is unfortunate since we have such a long intense winter. Anyone have any suggestions for a good system for high altitude and a nine month winter climate? I can't continue with this system into the winter, way too risky.
Unshowered and Unhappy
"Finicky, Unreliable, Expensive"
I had this unit installed in 2009 upon the recommendation of a plumbing contractor. It has proven to be extremely finicky and unreliable. The unit shuts down, displaying an error code for "Failing to ignite." The troubleshooting guide is useless for the layman. Each time this occurs (which is several times during the year), a service technician must be called in to fix the problem. The costs add up, thus negating any savings made from the unit's efficiency. Steer clear of this company. Do NOT purchase this unit.
Several consumers on gardenweb.com mentioned how pleased they are with the heating efficiency of the Prestige Trimax Solo. There are just a couple of negative comments about the control panel. On terrylove.com there are problems mentioned with the boiler pressure, but those seem to be cause by the fill valve and not the boiler itself.
