The Trane XR15 is a high-efficiency heat pump that offers up to 16.00 SEER and 9.5 HSPF. A DuraTuff non-corrosive basepan allows for quick and easy drainage, while galvanized louvered panels and a baked-on powder paint prevent rust from forming. The Climatuff compressor is known for its durability and a sound-reduction insulator helps to provide quiet operation. The unit runs on chlorine-free, environmentally-friendly R-410A refrigerant.
Cooling is very efficient. However, those savings are more than lost in the winter. My electric bills have nearly doubled from my last 15-year-old unit. This despite burning a cord of wood and having all CFL bulbs in the house. There is definitely an issue with this heat pump and heating. It's not at all what I was expecting.

Very Satisfied
We had a Trane XE1200 5 ton heat pump, which ran perfectly for 14 years. A slow leak developed, so we decided to replace the entire system with an XR15. This new system is noticeably much quieter, circulates more air, and uses less electricity than the old XE1200. So we are very happy with it. It keeps the house very comfortable and at a uniform temperature. We had it installed by a factory authorized and trained dealer – this is very important if you want your system to work properly and reliably. It is important to select matched indoor and outdoor units which have been AHRI certified for best efficiency and warranty.

"Fan noise"

Somewhat Satisfied
I have had my Trane system for 3 years, and when the fan kicks I get clicking a noise in the fan area every so often. I am not satisfied with having that issue and I have seen that others owners of the same model have the same problem. If this is the case why has this issue be addressed by the manufacturer? I have my unit serviced twice a year so I know it's not because of negligence.

Purchased this unit 2 yrs ago and have had problems with it on & off. ac failing, leaks, heat not working etc. etc. The latest being that the heat pump makes excessively loud noises when it is in heat mode (not auto). When outside temps reach 40 degrees it makes a grinding noise like brakes on a wood floor and then cycles into this very loud banging noise, like a baseball bat being slammed against a wall. This happens as it is shutting down. We've had numerous service techs out to look at problem and they say its normal…I'd like them to tell that to my neighbors who are really aggravated about this. It does not happen every cycle, but often enough to disrupt our sleep, as the unit is right outside our Master bedroom and directly across to the neighbor's children's bedrooms. The unit produces heat, but not adequate to keep the house warm and we frequently have a blast of cold air before the auxiliary kicks in. Supposedly this is caused by the coil defrosting..which is not energy efficient ops in my book. Trane customer service does not exist, the reason they do not post numbers on their website…obviously too many problems and complaints that they do not want to deal with. it's a trane wreck!!! Carrier is the Top brand recommended by the hvac Assoc and judging by the way our current system is operating we'll probably be replacing it sooner than we expected to!!!

Very Unsatisfied
Purchased Lemon unit November 2011. Had expansion valve issue from day 1. After 3 visits by ac service the unit stopped working in July 2012. I was 12 days without air conditioning because Trane did not have the part and it was being made by Parker Valve Corp. After Paying $45.00 for air freight and $500.00 later the unit was fix. I will never buy another Trane unit. Their Customer Service and Internet stinks! No help from them what so ever.
Comments on the XR15 are generally positive. Consumers on both boardreader.com and gardenweb.com have mentioned concerns about the unit’s ability to control humidity. There were concerns from writers on both sites about the sound level of the XR15, but most consumers seemed to find the unit very quiet.
XR15 Warranty
Registration is required within 60 days of installation to activate the warranty. The Trane XR15 comes with a 10-year limited warranty on the compressor, outdoor coil and internal functioning parts.
