The Trane XE 1200 is a discontinued split system, three-phase heat pump with an efficiency of 12.00 SEER and 8.00 HSPF. Models of the XE 1200 ranged in size from 1.5 to 5 tons and featured a single-stage Climatuff compressor and spine fin aluminum coils. The cabinet was constructed of full-side louvered panels with a baked-on powder paint finish and corrosion-resistant screws.
Yes I would buy another one. Installed myself. I'm not a heat & air tech. Just an electrician, and I read the instructions, resized my ductwork also. Unit went down at 10 years. I replaced both capacitors, went down at 12 years. Replaced defrost switch (icing up) also condenser fan stop running pulled it out, tore apart, sanded shaft, oiled it good, and it's still running. I spent about $50.00 in 15 years. Not bad. Older unit I replaced was a Frigidaire 1.5 ton (1986 yr) ran a lot, did not heat or cool good when removed found duct sized way too small, it didn't have a chance, lasted for 13 yrs. (Question your installer make sure everything is right)

Very Unsatisfied
Built home in 2000 and was convinced to install Trane high efficiency units by my vendors. As an Architect, I went high-end. I cannot tell you how many parts have been changed most under the warranty which is now long gone. Now, as I sit here writing, it's 108 degrees and my 5 ton unit compressor is dead. It's the second one. Have dumped more money into this one unit than all of my AC units in the past combined. You cannot even buy big parts for it they have locked the consumer out. Never spec a Trane.

Neutral
Purchased (2) xe 1200 4 ton units with variable speed air handler in May and June 2001. The compressor just went out on one of the units this week. I'm disappointed since I expected better performance from a Trane based on their reputation. I didn't realize the compressor was on the blink until we got our Jan electric bill. What a surprise. The unit was not shutting off and the heat strips we're on all the time. Not sure whether I'll replace this unit with another Trane but I am looking at other brands with a better warranty. I think it should have lasted more than 7 years especially given the price of the unit.
