Trane XE 1000 Heat Pump Overview

The unit features a Climatuff compressor, the company’s proprietary Spine Fin aluminum outdoor coil, braze refrigerant connections and a liquid lined filter drier.

The cabinet of the XE 1000 heat pump has full-side louvered panels with a baked-on powder paint used for resistance to corrosion and rust. Access to the internal functioning parts is attained via a single-side service panel.

"3 Ton XE1100"

Our xe1100 was working like a champ until it wasn'T. It lasted 22 years! Ultimately, it was a leak where we needed to completely refill the refrigerant, which of course is sky high (the old stuff now) so it didn't make sense to refill it. But 22 years?! That's an impressive run!

"Hard to stop a Trane"

Installed in 1985, two small repairs in 33 years. Couldn't ask for a better unit. It would cool to 75 when it was over 100. Just now went out.

"Lasted from 1995-2016"

We just started having a problem in 2016 with Trane XE1000 Heat Pump. It was installed in 1995. I think that if I knew how to fix it it would still be running. I am very pleased that it ran for 21 years!

"Very poor quality"

Unit is now 13 years old. I have had trouble with it since I moved into the house in 2004. Multiple a/c guys have worked on it from the start and never got it free of problems. Blows capacitors, at least 1 per year for 4 years. Compressor outside heating coil was found defective 2 years ago. Opinion of a/c guy is that it had to be bad from the start but was not found until 2013, well out of warranty. This probably caused most of the early problems. Air handler defective this year, and leaking coils. Yesterday blew another capacitor. Nothing but trouble. Will never buy another Trane.

We bought the house when the Trane xe1000 heat pump had just been put in. I never liked heat pumps and now I remember why. It has cost us over three thousand dollars in repairs in the last three years. Trane does not care about there customes at all. It is junk!!!

Other XE 1000 Reviews

A homeowner seeking assistance from HVAC professionals on reports an instance of system failure with the XE 1000 in which the system gets “stuck” between heating and cooling modes. A technician originally fixed the problem by adjusting the reverser valve on the compressor, but it turned out to be only a temporary fix. A contractor on the online forum suggests the problem is a failure of the reversal valve. The repair is expensive, the tech notes, and it is suggested that the homeowner consider replacing the entire system as a result.

Another Trane XE 1000 owner reports on a problem where the inside and outside heating components are dead, even when set to emergency heat, although the thermostat shows attempts to turn on. An HVAC professional reveals that the problem is an electrical short that will require all new wiring. Online techs indicate this is a fairly common problem, generally the result of loose connections at the heat strips.

XE 1000 Warranty

A 5-year limited warranty applies to the heat pump’s compressor and coil. There is 1-year warranty on parts and optional warranty extensions are available through your Trane Dealer.
