Trane’s XR90 gas furnace is a single stage model featuring a 91%+ AFUE rating. Noteworthy features include a four-speed blower motor, a microelectronic controller, silicon nitride igniter, and AL29-4C stainless steel secondary heat exchanger.
The furnace comes in an insulated cabinet 40″ high and 28″ deep made of galvanized steel and pre-painted. The upflow models have conveniently hinged blower doors and door latches. The equipment can be installed horizontally or vertically to suit your purpose.
Woke up to 56 degrees and cold air blowing out the vents this morning. Had our Trane xr90 for 6 years. Nothing but problems since. Every single winter, it craps out and stops heating the house and requires maintenance. Everything under warranty so far, so that’s good. My fear is in another few years when warranty is up, what happens then? I guess, I will be screwed and just have to pay for parts and maintenance each winter to keep this lemon running. Nothing runs like a Trane – what a joke.
"Poorly engineered furnace."

Very Unsatisfied
Sorry but xr90 Trane has been a problem since year two of installation. The firebox was replace due to leaking water from within – false starts – up to six times before igniting caused the following changes – a mother board – a programmable thermostat – when I believe the bottom line was insufficient air from the inlet tube the major problem. The breaking point was failure of the air conditioner compressor fan recently. Installing a Carrier Infinity series gas furnace with a 95% afue which includes a long warranty period.
Posters on this HVAC forum debate the qualities of Trane, Carrier, and Lennox and most seem to agree that Trane comes out on top where quiet efficiency is concerned but loses in terms of price. Most believe that proper sizing of a furnace and good installation is more important than the brand.

Question:
What does an error code of 9 flashes mean on a Trane furnace?
Answer:
A red light blinking 9 times refers to a problem with the igniter. There may be a diagram explaining the error codes on the back of your unit’s front panel.
