"Throwing control board bad code"

3.0 rating

Our Trane furnace is just over a year old. Top of the line last year. We have replaced the transformer and the board. It is getting power to everything, but it is still showing the control board bad code(a new board was just put on today with a new transformer). What can cause this? Please respond asap as even though its “Spring”, we are still getting snow and very low temp. Thank you.

"“How to Stop a Trane”"

This is how you stop a Trane. First of all you have to do is give up your hard earned money to purchase and install a Trane furnace. Yes…it will seem like a smart decision at the time because of their marketing however you will soon learn that all the hype is just that…HYPE! Now to stop the “Trane” all you have to do is wait and it will stop all by itself! In six years of ownership the motor control board has stopped working twice! The repair is over $350. They do not stand behind the warranty they offer up front and they do not know the meaning of customer service. The best thing to do is don’t get one in the first place. I am now the proud owner of a $3000 Trane XR90 boat anchor because I refuse to give them anymore money and have it repaired…again. I have however come up with a solution for my predicament. I’m getting a new furnace from a competitor. Save yourself the grief, inconvenience and cost. DO NOT BUY TRANE HVAC EQUIPMENT…PERIOD!

I called the customer service rep when my problems began and received no good answer from anyone. We purchased the unit in 2003 and have had problems ever since. I think with all the service calls I have paid for the furnace twice. 5-10-06 venter motor, 9-16-06 pressure switch, 4-23-07 flame sensor. 5-02-07 Same problem, 5-09-07 venter motor again, 5-18-07 heater exchange, 5-25-07 venter motor again, 10-16-07 venter motor again, 4-22-12 3 burners, 4-23-12 gas valve. This time we got stung for another $480 dollars. With all the service charges of 80 dollars for each service charge I feel we have almost paid for the furnace twice and as far as any help from the customer service dept. They gave us no help at all.

Had a Trane xr90 installed 7 years ago, been great. Extremely quite with the variable speed fan….I’ve had to go to the basement to see if it was running. Always has been. No temp. Swings and no service calls. Been a great product. Highly recommend.

Other XR90 Reviews

Posters on this HVAC forum debate the qualities of Trane, Carrier, and Lennox and most seem to agree that Trane comes out on top where quiet efficiency is concerned but loses in terms of price. Most believe that proper sizing of a furnace and good installation is more important than the brand.

Question and Answer

Question:

What is the red flashing light on a Trane XR90 furnace?

Answer:

The flashing red light is an error code, meaning something is wrong with the furnace. The sequence of blinks is a code that can be used to troubleshoot the problem. There is often a diagnostic code list explaining the sequence of blinks on the inside of the front panel.

Question:

What does an error code of 9 flashes mean on a Trane furnace?

Answer:

A red light blinking 9 times refers to a problem with the igniter. There may be a diagram explaining the error codes on the back of your unit’s front panel.
