Trane’s XL90 is a two-stage gas furnace with a 92%+ AFUE rating. Two-stage heating lets consumers choose different settings depending on whether the temp is just a little nippy or well below zero. Other features on the XL90 include Trane CleanEffects™ which takes care of air filtration along with the heating. This model comes with a four-speed blower, a self-diagnostic microelectronic controller, and an adaptive silicon nitride igniter.
The Trane XL90 gas furnace comes in a convenient pre-painted galvanized steel cabinet of 40″ by 28″ dimensions. In addition to the usual vertical positioning, it can also be installed horizontally. Other features include a washable filter, one-piece heat exchanger that requires no welding, electro-deposition paint, and an enclosed burner box.
I purchased a furnace/AC package from Trane in 2005, biggest mistake I ever made! Furnace had nearly every part replaced within first 2 years and still had problems! Trane finally came out and removed furnace and replaced with new one and within months problems began again. A/C unit has had the connector replaced 4 times, every single year bugs seem to get into the area and cause the connector to burnout and need replacement, costing me several hundreds of dollars. Trane products are poorly designed, poorly manufactured, the dealers who install their products, at least mine, are unqualified and customer service is non existant. "XV90i great system !"
5.0 rating
Very Satisfied
Needed to replace my system after the current furnace died. Looked at Lennox, Carrier, Goodman and Trane. Went with Trane based on reputation, installer recommnedation, friends who had Trane at their houses and feature/price comparisons. I liked the Trane fully modulating gas valve and variable speed fan(to maximize both gas savings and comfort). Its not the cheapest system, but I’m willin to pay for the feautures and realiabiloty it offers. Not disappointed. It’s been three years w/o any issues, its exceed my expectations – highly recommend.
Comments on one consumer forum rated Trane as the number two preferred furnace, second to Carrier and ahead of York. Factors considered include the number of levels, size of building, and frequency of use.
ConsumerSearch.com rates Trane and Rheem/Rudd as the most reliable brands.
