The Trane XR14 is a single-stage air conditioner with an efficiency rating of up to 16 SEER. It has a Climatuff compressor, an all-aluminum spine fin coil, and a DuraTuff non-corrosive base pan that won’t warp, crack or rust. A compressor sound insulator on select models helps keep sound levels as low as 72 decibels. Galvanized steel louvered panels help protect the unit from the elements, while WeatherGuard fasteners and a powder paint finish helps resist rust and corrosion.
Trane recommends that you change the filter on the indoor unit monthly. Other maintenance suggestions include:
Keep the outdoor unit free of leaves, debris, ice and snow
I would implore, beg anyone reading this to never consider buying a Trane Air Conditioner or Furnace. After just getting off the phone with Trane "Lack Of" Customer Service, I want to make others aware. * Suction King Valve was bad at install * Replaced the TXV * Suction Service Valve was bad 2 years later–needed to replace–no coolant I am honestly not sure what other problems may have existed from the beginning. Admittedly some of the problems may have been related to the install. I know I have basically had no air conditioning for three years–using two window units, and essentially limited, if any heat in the winter. I cannot keep paying $1339 every spring for 7 lbs of 410-A due to problems with Trane parts or equipment. Do not buy Trane!! I have had a Trane air conditioner coil replaced three times in the last three years. The coil seemed to have "melted" a drip pan and no one knows the reason why. I now have found out that Trane discontinued this product. Well, I am sure there were production reasons on your part. I am entitled to some reimbursement and will not quit until I do. I ended up getting a new furnace thinking it was just the combination ($4500.00) of the new air conditioner and the older furnace. But that is not the case as I found out after much research on my own. Your product was/is defective and I am entitled to compensation!! As you can see, I am not a satisfied customer. It is up to you now!! Western Hills Heating and Air have been my furnace/air conditioner people for over 25 years…they are not the problem. Please get this resolved with me.

"Motor died after 1.5 years"

We had this unit installed in November 2015; it's part of a hybrid unit so during the winter it provides heat until temps drop and then our furnace kicks in. It also provides air conditioning during warmer months. Recently we heard some noises from the system- kind of like a fast rattle or a loud fan; a few hours later the whole unit stopped working. Our service provider confirmed that the motor died- it's July 2017 (and very hot) and we've had the unit for just over one and a half years. I would not recommend this unit and would not buy the Trane brand again.

I was working in the garage and heard a loud hissing noise like a sprinkler head blew off. It was dusk so I knew the sprinklers weren't on. I followed the sound to the AC condenser and I see sparks flying out the top of the condenser unit. Looking into the unit, the plug to the compressor is on the pan floor and kinda burnt looking and the Freon is blasting out of where it was plugged in. The AC is only three years old.
Most of the posts regarding the XR14 on sites such as doityourself.com have to do with minor problems like a faulty thermostat or problems due to poor installation, such as the homeowner whose unit was not cooling well due to the ducts not being properly insulated.
