The Trane XL14i air conditioner is a (discontinued) split-system central air conditioner with an efficiency rating of up to 15 SEER. It had a single-speed compressor, but could be matched with a variable speed blower (either a furnace or an air handler) to reduce noise and operate at higher efficiencies. Trane also marketed a heat pump under the XL14i series name, which had a heating efficiency of up to 9 HSPF.
The XL14i was available with either R-22 (commonly known as Freon) or R-410 (commonly known as Puron) refrigerant.
Unit was installed in 2007, problem started 2014 faulty expansion valve was replaced. 2015 refrigerant leaking from a coil, was supposed to be repaired. 2016, refrigerant leaked again, technician said repaired. 2017, refrigerant leaked, tried new company, they found pin holes in a coil, probably same leaks were there for last 2 years, now out of warranty.

Purchased and installed a 4tWX4024A1000AB Trane heat pump 10/2004 to serve an addition on our home. 1. Automatic thermostat doesn't work well with fan speed control. Don't like the high velocity when temperature set point changes and fan takes off to try to quickly satisfy the new setting. Sometime the fans seems to be lost and ramps up and down constantly. 2. Year 7 – replaced AHU fan motor and speed controls 3. Year 10 – lost condenser fan start and run caps 4. Year 12 – lost condenser fan motor No doubt a quiet condenser but the AHU fan speed issue is not good.

I was sold this unit 10 years ago along with the furnace. I've had nothing but problems with this unit. First the outside coil went bad and Freon leaked out. Then the capacitor blew out. Then the inner coil went bad losing Freon and was replaced. In each case I was told the leaks were fixed. Now again the unit is down after only 1 year after an 800 dollar repair. Unit has only been used a few months total in the 10 years, breaking down almost every year. I'm tired of paying thousands just to use it a month or two every year.
