SmartComfort TX 5400 SmartComfort TCA

Tempstar A/C Overview

Tempstar makes two main types of air conditioners, each with its own advantages and disadvantages for different homes:

The traditional air conditioner with which you are probably most familiar is also known as a split-system air conditioner. The compressor and condenser sit inside a weather-resistant metal cabinet outdoors. The evaporator is housed in an indoor cabinet, often alongside a furnace or the interior portions of a heat pump. Tempstar traditional air conditioners are available in numerous models and sizes.

For those who lack available indoor space, a package unit may be an excellent choice. As implied by the name, a package unit groups all the necessary components into one outdoor unit. It can be installed on a concrete pad outside your home, or even on your roof. Different models are available to meet the needs of different homeowners.

All air conditioners have an energy efficiency rating known as the SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) which calculates efficiency by dividing the cooling output by the amount of electrical energy that the unit consumes. The higher the SEER, the more energy-efficient that particular Tempstar AC unit is. All new air conditioners sold in the United States are required to have a SEER rating of at least 13, and in Southern regions, at least 14. In addition, different air conditioner models have different features that may or may not be important to you.

Care and maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance of your air conditioner can maximize its efficiency and extend its lifespan. Filters are available for a variety of different needs and concerns, from allergen removal to pet odor neutralization. Change the filter every 30 to 60 days, and if you have multiple furry pets or suffer from asthma or allergies, you may need to change the filter even more frequently.

Regularly cut back foliage and remove clutter and debris from around the outdoor parts of your air conditioner. Clean the coil fins whenever they become noticeably dirty, and straighten out any bends with a fin comb. Dust the indoor vents periodically, and have your air conditioner unit professionally serviced on an annual basis.

Tempstar air conditioner warranties

Tempstar offers different warranties depending on the specific model you select. Top of the line products, such as the QuietComfort Deluxe series, carry a 10-year No Hassle Replacement warranty on the compressor, while other product groups carry shorter replacement warranties. In addition, most Tempstar products provide a 10-year limited parts warranty. Check with your dealer for specific warranty information on the Tempstar AC unit you choose. Standard warranties do not cover labor charges, but your dealer may offer extended warranties that include these costs.
