Tappan FG6RL Furnace Overview
The Tappan FG6RL is a discontinued condensing gas furnace with an AFUE rating of up to 92.1 percent. This downflow unit can be installed freestanding or in a small, enclosed space and may be vented vertically or horizontally.
The FG6RL is equipped with a tubular primary heat exchanger made of heavy-gauge aluminized steel, and a secondary heat exchanger made with stainless steel. The design and material of these heat exchangers increases their longevity, according to the manufacturer.
Several features are incorporated into the FG6RL to increase safety and durability, including the 30-second blower delay that ensures the duct is warm during the start-up and is adjustable for up to 180 seconds. The heat exchanger has a 30-second post-purge, and a 90-second fixed cooling cycle blower-off delay that improves cooling when used with a compatible coil.
Enhanced electronics allow the unit to communicate needed repairs easily to the homeowner via light flashes, and connections are available for add-ons. The transformer and control board are protected from voltage shorts by a 3-amp fuse, and field wiring is made simple due to the low voltage terminal board.
