The Rinnai Luxury is a tankless water heater with an energy factor of up to .82. It is available in three sizes: 180,000, 192,000 and 199,000 BTU. It features an electronic ignition, and a compact copper heat exchanger provides maximum efficiency and a longer product lifespan. The unit's Cir-Logic technology uses an external recirculation pump and dedicated recirculation line to fully satisfy hot water demands. The Luxury's compact design allows installation in crawl spaces and attics, and included isolation valves provide easy maintenance.
I feel like I need to kind of set the record straight, if I may. First off, please know, I am a private plumbing contractor. I am not on Rinnai's payroll. I do not get 'kickbacks' of any kind from Rinnai. It is, however, our preferred brand to sell and install. We are in the Atlanta area, and tankless heaters are quickly becoming the norm here. We do service most brands, so I can speak somewhat intelligently. Most (about 90%) of the trouble calls we answer in regard to Rinnai heaters are caused by improper installation (about 75% of those are gas related, and 25% are vent related). Sometimes we are blown away that the heater actually fired up and worked at all, for any amount of time, given the installation. All in all, Rinnai has less component failures than any other tankless brand we service. Real, true, not caused by a substandard installation, mechanical failures. That's my rant. I just didn't want Rinnai to take the rap for what truly are installation issues.
"Never ever again – repairs / callouts are so costly!"
We bought the Rinnai tankless hot water heater after our prior hot water tank, and lower level were destroyed by Superstorm Sandy. It was installed in 2013 at a cost of $2700. It is now 2016 and I am considering ripping the whole thing out and going with a standard hot water tank. Their customer service is a joke, no help there at all, the plumber I had come out couldn't figure it out – there are so many codes and within those codes it could be one of 30 things. I called Rinnai and decided to bite the bullet and have their tech guy come out, he said it needed a clean, $250 later and 45 minutes of work (I mean why do you constantly have to pay for cleanings there's no way it saves you in the long run). After he left it stopped working again, then he said it needed new venting, then he doesn't come back, then he says he's talking to Rinnai and they want him to try other methods of troubleshooting. I said on who's dime – mine. By the end of this I'll probably be another $1000 in, it's just not worth the hassle. Get a regular hot water tank without all the problems and costs. Worst piece of equipment I've ever bought in my home and I own 6 (rental properties also). Buyer beware
"Very satisfied with my Rinnai Tankless Water Heater"
My husband and I got rid of our big bulky water heater, which ran on electric, and switched to the Rinnai Tankless Water Heater approximately 1 year ago. The purchase was a great investment, because our local gas company had a great rebate going on for switching to natural gas with installation of a tankless water heater. I love the water heater because it is very small and takes up much less space than our previous water heater. It is up on the wall in my laundry room and looks very sleek and sophisticated. I also love this model because you can turn the water heater on and off with the push of a button. You can also adjust the temperature of how hot the water can heat up to with the up and down arrow feature. This has helped reduce our electric bill, and costs very little to use. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to conserve energy.
"Don't Buy Rinnai"
I always wanted a tankless water heater. Just bought this and out of the box worked for 2 weeks. Then stopped working. Installed by a licensed plumber, Lowes plumber. I would not buy from Rinnai again. The tech people at Rinnai will not talk to you-the customer. They will only talk to a certified repair person. I just paid $302.00 to a certified repair person to tell me he "thinks" it needs a new part which will cost another $250.00 for the part and to install. Rinnai will not honor their warranty. If the repair part does not fix the problem, then I will thrash this unit. They keep telling me the professional plumber installed it incorrectly. Do yourself a favor and do not buy from this company. They blame their problem on other people. I wish I had bought another brand or just stuck with a tank water heater. If you buy from Rinnai and it stops working, you will get screwed. Trust me, because I am presently getting screwed by Rinnai. I could have purchase a tank water heater for $800 installed. Now, I will be out around $2000. a Rinnai is not worth it unless you have a lot of money to throw down the drain.
Other Luxury Reviews
There are very few reviews of the Rinnai Luxury on HVAC forums. A post on redflagdeals.com regarding a discount on the unit found most members saying that the savings from using the unit are not worth the increased upfront cost.
