"Fire hazard!!"

Do not purchase a Rheem water heater! If I could give them zero stars, I would. Our water heater started leaking 2 yrs after install (rusted out). The day we were getting a new one, the front panel burst into flames, resulting in a call to 911. Thankfully, we were home, or our house would be gone & our pets would be dead! My husband took it back to Home Depot, but because we didn't have the receipt (?!?), they would only issue store credit. They only sell Rheem, so no way we're we going to get another one. We went to Lowe's and are out another $410 for a different brand. When I called customer service, I spoke with 3 different people. NOT ONE of them apologized or showed any remorse for our house fire; in fact, they didn't even sound surprised. The Sr. Rep I spoke with (who claimed she was the highest up person I could speak with over the phone) tried to tell me it was our fault (no), our electric system (no again), and then tried to tell me it was Home Depot's fault (they didn't make the unit, YOU DID!). They were HORRIBLE, and tried to buy me off with a $100 'Customer Satisfaction Check'. I declined, telling them that didn't cut it; I wanted the full price of the new water heater I had to buy out of pocket. She continued to be rude, refuse, and treat me like a know-nothing nuisance. All I was ultimately given was the address & email of their corporate headquarters to take the matter further. (Apparently, there are no phones at corporate.) So now I'm gathering up all of my documentation (fire report, photos, etc.). If there's a lawsuit forming out there, I'll GLADLY join!

I purchased a 40-gallon electric hot water heater from homedepot. Installed it, and it did not heat the water after 4 hours. Called the number provided and they said they are short on technicians in this area. They will contact us on the first business day. This was Saturday so I would have to wait until Monday. We went back to homedepot and purchased another of the same heater. This one had a huge dent in it. Took it back for an exchange. Installed the 3rd one. Turned on water and the water started pouring out of the upper heating element. I called home depot and they graciously took back all of the heaters. I would Not recommend this brand to anyone. Stick to air conditioning. Home depot was the Best.

"Worked As Advertised"

Had a Rheem manufactured June 2005 in place when we bought the house in 2010. It just failed December 2017. That means it is a 6 year warranty model that lasted for 12 years and six months. So it is a good unit.

I bought hot water heater from Home Depot. I had it installed, but it would not go on. I called Rheem customer service they told me it was not firing and they would send me the part. The part did not show up because they had the wrong address. They told me to call FedEx to change address. I called FedEx they said only Rheem could change. I called Rheem and they said they can't make out going calls. 5 days and no hot water. Rheem is a horrible company. I would never buy anything from this company again. Don't know what to do.

"Exactly 3 months and pilot/leakage issue"

1.0 rating

Installed a 38gal and 38k btu rheem performance tank type water heater and in exactly 90 days from purchase and installation date the pilot went out and would not relight. It got close to relighting but after a puff of white smoke/maybe steam I turned the gas off as the red light was flashing. When I removed the water heater and tilted it downward there was about a gallon of water running out of the area where the burner is. We called rheem and the 90 day warranty was up the very next day from Home Depot. We took the water back to Home Depot and received store credit. The only problem with Home Depot is that they only sell rheem water heaters. We ended up getting the same exact water heater because we are thinking that one was a dud. I will update if something happens to this new one.
