Rheem RQNA Heat Pump Reviews

"Inadequate compressor warranty"

1.0 rating
Very Unsatisfied

My mother is a 82 year old widow who purchased a rqna series heat pump for her home in December of 2005 for $4k. During some of the coldest weather on record this past December, the compressor failed in the eighth year of use. She had to rely on undersized strip heat for five days until a $1000 replacement was shipped and installed for a fat fee of $700 labor. Up to this point, the unit had worked satisfactorily. I dislike the fact that most residential Rheem heat pumps have a ten year warranty on the compressors, but this model only has five. Also, if you the consumer do not register your product online, you don't have a warranty. Rheem should require the installer to register the product at the time of installation, not the home owner. I would not recommend this product or manufacturer to anyone.

"The best unit in the market"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

If I was to buy a heat pump based on these reviews, I would be very disappointed. I can't believe that every brand has a negative rating!! Rheem, Trane, American Standard, Carrier these are all top of the line heat pumps. I personally witnessed 30-40 year old heat pumps of these same name brands that were still running. More than just buying a heat pump, people need to do their homework on the contractor that's installing it. P.S. Watch out for the big companies.

Other RQNA Reviews

Homeowners have little to say about the RQNA on the web. Among the few reviews, one contractor on hvac-talk.com recommends this product to a homeowner comparing units, pointing out that this particular unit is easy to service and provides efficient heating.

A homeowner on justanswer.com poses a question about a RQNA heat pump with a heat strip that blows air, but no heat. An expert replies with suggestions for how to check for a faulty thermostat, but soon theorizes that the unit may have a faulty motor. The pair soon realize that it will require an experts review to solve this problem.

Overall, consumer forms such as hvac-talk.com or doityourself.com recommend Rheem HVAC equipment to shoppers, stating Rheem produces quality equipment designed to provide long-lasting performance. However, these sites add, proper installation of the correctly sized unit and regular maintenance generally are more important than the brand installed.
