"Worst Decision"

Air Handler – rhslhm3617ja / Heat Pump r13pjl36a01 In February 2009, I had to replace my old unit. I always heard Rheem was a great brand decided to go with it. Should have known I made the wrong decision when only after a month or so a piece on the Heat Pump broke/Crack that cause leakage. No problem the install replaced it and wield the unit back but took about a week or so. It Run OK for about a year or so but the unit never really cooled or heated up the house very good. And on my yearly service they continue to add Freon. In 2012 they added 2 lbs of Freon and at that time the technician stated that I probably had a leak and had my coil replaced early 2013. Replacement part came quick but then my compressor went out. Could have had it replaced but would have cost me another 700 dollars. With all the issue I had with this unit decided to get another unit and get away from Rheem product all together. You expect me to pay 4k plus on a complete unit and hope that it would last at least 5 years trouble free but had troubles from day one and countless service fee to have people to come out and fix it. I tell all my friends now not to purchase a Rheem. They are not as good as the once where. Cheap made product. Save yourself from headache, save your money and buy another brand.

"NEVER BUY A RHEEM!"

We have had a Rheem hvac unit for less than 2 years and have been without air and heat more than 5 different times! We also purchased a 10 yr warranty but the fees for labor have cost us an outrageous amount of money. This unit is junk and we can't get anyone from the Rheem Co. to contact us. Don't buy from Rheem! Will never buy from them again!

"Do not buy Rheem"

I have purchased 2 homes in the past 5 years and both had Rheem equipment installed. The first was a Rheem gas furnace that was 2 years old when we purchased the home and we had to put over a $1,000 in service repairs/parts into the system in 4 winters (plus countless freezing nights). Our newest home has a Rheem heat pump/AC/air handler system installed. Manufacturing date on heat pump and AH read May 2010. It is December 2011 and we just dropped over $500 in replacing a defrost board. What hunks of junk. I will never buy Rheem when the opportunity arises to replace this garbage.

"Rheem 13PJL Line Heat Pumps Great Buy"

5.0 rating

I have owned my Rheem heat pump for the past 5 years. It has been very reliable and has not broken or required maintenance beyond what is regular. The heat pump is also very energy efficient, and according to calculations, it has saved me over $100 a year in energy costs for each of the past 5 years. That's $500 saved just by using a Rheem heat pump! The only time I did have a problem was when something lodged itself in the heat pump, but Rheem's Easy Service design allowed me to fix the problem myself just by removing the top. I cannot think of anything to dislike about my heat pump, as my last heat pump ceased to function after two years and this has already lasted five. That being said, I would strongly recommend this brand to any friend or anyone looking for a heat pump for their home.

Great price for both outside unit and blower. I changed out a very poorly built tempstar 13 ( 3 evaperator coils in 5 years time, curcuit board in blower, compressor died at year 12) Done! I checked out furnace reviews. Rheem at that time rated #3 ruud #2 amana#1. As preprice point, ruud and rheem are the same unit, the lower cost will always will win and that was Rheem. 13pjl48a/rgslhm4821ja model# with a programable thermostat. We changed out 3.5 ton to 4 ton ( please check sizing chart to the homes sq ft) And what a change it made in tempature and run time. And for a price of $3050 total! The outside unit uses full lovers to protect the coils ,the paint looks durable and inside blower is quite ,However the the outside unit is very loud! When it starts or cycles on or off. Im not sure if its the way it was installed on a new plastic riser pad. There is a big thud at start up and shut down, but quite when running.so far great unit a word to the wise! Shop the overall price on unit and installation !The 1st guys and the fastest contractors were the most expensive by as much as 3000.00 dollars more. also Shop the contractors that post there prices for btu or size of unit. If they advertise a price, use it as a rule on thumb. I got prices from the papper mint a local coupon magazine.do your home work, check them out and hold them to there price.check bbb, And also ar if they are a recommended top installer for the brand you would like to have installed. All this information is is posted on the fatorys web site. And by the way most manufactors are giving you a 10 year parts warrenty at no cost to you.

Other 13PJL Reviews

A homeowner poses a question on hvac-talk.com about deciding between installing a Rheem heat pump and a system that uses Trane components. The contractor that responds believes the systems to be fairly equal, but the Rheem heat pump has a higher heating capacity; therefore, he recommends the Rheem.

Gardenweb.com reveals a post from a consumer looking to replace his 15-year-old system before it stops working. He has received some estimates on Rheem heat pumps, and is asking for expert opinions. The contractors say that Rheem is a very reliable brand, and the estimates seem reasonable. As always, the installers recommend dealing with a reliable HVAC company.

Another post on the gardenweb.com forum details a question from a homeowner regarding a Rheem heat pump versus a Westinghouse heat pump. The contractors say that both are equal, but seem to lean toward the Rheem, due to heating capacity. They do mention that the Westinghouse unit may operate more quietly, which is a concern for the questioner.
