Raypak Raytherm Boilers

Raypak Raytherm Boiler Overview

The Raypak Raytherm is a gas-fired hydronic boiler with an efficiency of up to 84.0 AFUE. It uses a copper finned tube heat exchanger for greater heat transfer, and an electronic intermittent pilot ignition which improves efficiency by using fuel only when there is a call for heat. Stainless steel burners provide longer durability, and a built-in draft diverter helps increase the unit’s efficiency. Safety features include manual reset safety sensors which shut down the boiler if there is a flame roll-out or flue gas spillage and a fast response temperature sensor which shuts down the boiler if it overheats due to a low flow condition. All gas, plumbing, wiring and controls are located at the front of the Raytherm boiler for easy installation and serviceability.

Horrible, horrible waste of time, money and loss of sleep. Unit is not old and already replaced. This boiler gives new meaning to money pit.

This boiler seems OK. It's not great, but not terrible either. The good: -So far no major maintenance has been needed (bought my house 2 years ago, this one has the boiler. My previous houses all had traditional furnaces). The bad: -There doesn't seem to be a financial benefit to this boiler compared to regular heating systems. It almost seems more expensive than modern energy efficient traditional heating systems. This was a big letdown because I was led to believe that boilers were more efficient and lower maintenance. This unfortunately has not been true at all in my case. -While in a crawlspace, it seems to be extremely prone to rusting in the relatively humid area. I have to replace roll out switches every year due to this ($30 each), and probably should replace even more parts next year. -Temperature consistency problems. This might be in part due to the thermostat, but it seems like there's a struggle to maintain a consistent temperature in the house. It takes a while to heat the water and pump it through the house, so the house will get colder while it gets going. Then, once the house reaches temp & the thermostat shuts it off, all the radiators are still hot, so it continues to over heat the house. In summary, the house temperature goes from chilly to hot over and over. From my experience i would probably not recommend going the boiler route.

"Review of My Boiler"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

This boiler brand is pretty nice. I've never really had a problem with it and it heats nicely. I've owned it ever since I've lived in my house which is 3 years. My family and I decided on replacing the one that came with our house when we first moved in. In this 3 years of living here, it's been on it's best behavior if you will. I haven't been in a situation where I had to repair it yet, probably because it is still considered new. This is a great thing due to the fact that I'm a very impatient person. I wouldn't imagine that I would have to replace it because it is so efficient. I would definitely recommend it to a friend if they were in need of a new boiler. The Raytherm Hydronic Boiler is the way to go.

"All You'd Ever Want in a Home Broiler"

5.0 rating
Very Satisfied

I recently moved into a new house and one of the things that I needed was a new broiler. At my old house, I had one of those big cast iron broilers which must have been made in the stone ages. This newer Raytherm Hydronic Boiler doesn't take up that much space, and uses a lot less fuel so you'll be appreciating some savings when it comes time to pay those utility bills. I've had it for two years and haven't had any mechanical issues with it at all. Overall, I am very satisfied with my new broiler and will definitely spread the word to my family and friends about this particular brand.

Other Raytherm Reviews

A long post on heatinghelp.com from a homeowner asking about the Raytherm has many comments praising the unit and saying that almost every problem with it is due to poor installation. There appear to be very few negative comments about the unit, with most of those being about the copper fin design.
