The Payne PH10 is a discontinued split-system heat pump with an efficiency rating of 10.0 SEER and 6.8 HSPF. It featured a copper tube aluminum fin coil designed for greater heat transfer, while an enclosed PSC fan motor provided greater reliability in all weather. The compressor was protected by an accumulator and a low-pressure switch which stopped the compressor if the refrigerant charge was lost. The steel cabinet was protected by a baked-on powder paint coating.
I had payne unit 6 and half years ago. The unit was installed by Hazel Heat and Air. I had problems about 3 to 4 years go in winter time the unit runs up to degree you stand don't cut off . Fan keeps blowing out cold instead of hot . Meter on home steady runs up power bill. With problems with Hazei company, had to get Wilsons in Pomaria, S.C. to come out and fix. They did a great job something on the unit went bad also the lines had a blockage Hazel never put filters in freon lines. Now I am having the same problems again. I have a Goodman unit on the 2nd floor never had a problem except the didn't install and line filters also and very low air flow in the vents because the way they installed them. stay away from Hazel go Wilson if in my area of S.C.

Very Satisfied
Had unit installed in 1999. Never had a problem until today. Live in Florida-90-95 degrees-inside and out-need service man -probably needs freon. Otherwise no other problems. To me,this has been very good considering no repair services in 11 years. Need good inexpensive service tech. in this area!

Very Unsatisfied
We bought our house with an existing Payne ph10 that was put in new 3 years earlier. Now 2 months past, the 5-year warranty period, the evaporator coil is leaking r22. I was quoted $1100 to repair. I called Carrier (who makes the Payne) and basically was told it was my problem now. Fine, I will never buy a Payne or Carrier product again and I will never recommend one. It was installed correctly by a professional so don't say it was installed wrong. It's just a crap product.

He was advised by other members that it could be a bad contactor or a high pressure sensor.
