The Payne PA13NA is a split system air conditioner with an efficiency rating of 13 SEER. It features a single-stage scroll compressor and a copper tube/aluminum fin coil designed for optimal heat transfer. The unit’s specially-designed fan blades and rubberized isolation pads help reduce noise levels, while externally located brass service valves and a single access panel provide easy serviceability. The prepainted steel cabinet features a galvanized coating underneath and a layer of zinc phosphate for a weather resistant finish, and all cabinet screws are rust-resistant. Payne’s previous 13 SEER air conditioning unit was the PA13, which has been discontinued.
Piece of trash. Numerous parts replaced and completely rotted out within 4 years. Called the company and their warranty is essential useless. I was told that although I have a 10 year parts warranty it does not cover corrosion so what the hell does it cover , fire and lightening! Other reviews are correct in that Payne is an absolute pain. Poor customer service. Will never purchase again.

I had the fan motor go out after three years. The senior service provider was only interested in finding a loophole to not honor the warranty. The small 1000 square foot building has a shop up front and residence in back. She claimed that since it did not show two separate addresses the warranty was void. I had a leak in the air handler of my Trane x15 after three years. They came out and replaced the entire coil system. I highly recommend Trane and suggest staying away from Payne.

A/C is one year old. Cooling coil is gone and has to be replaced. Under warranty but there is no coil to be had. Manufacturing one in China for us. Should take 4-6 weeks to get it. We are in 80 degree weather in October. Repair man said the units were nothing but trouble. Looked into portable A/C units but can't use one. Customer service person was very nasty and unhelpful. Asked her what she would do if this happened to her. She said she did not have central air and would not engage in hypothetical situations. Looking forward to more repairs since all the parts are now plastic.

Installed by Alro Heating and Cooling in 2011. I have taken care of my air conditioner, covering it up in winter months, but it still rusted on top. The compressor went out today 8/8/16 and was still warranted but costed me $249. My old model ran from the time I bought my home in 1994 up until this unit in 2011. 5 years, really? This is what it comes down to, crap stuff being made. Worried what will happen next, so yes, piece of crap!

Had a Payne PA13NA 2 ton condenser unit and evaporator coil installed on 7/25/2016. Within 2 hours, the unit stopped cooling and froze up. The compressor rattled and sounded horrible. Installer came back the next day to add an additive to the lines. The unit again quit cooling after 2 hours and froze up. Installer came back on 7/27/2016 to replace the expansion valve. Again the unit froze up. A new condenser unit, evaporator coil and lineset installed on 8/1/2016. Again the compressor failed within hours. Had the installer remove the entire system. I am going with a new Lennox unit. Carrier products are junk, especially the Payne line.
Online reviews of the PA13NA seem to be mixed. A post on hvac-talk.com from a homeowner trying to decide between the PA13NA and a similar Carrier unit found most comments favoring the Carrier, although there were comments saying the units are almost the same.
