Troubleshooting and Maintenance

There are a few maintenance tips in the owner’s manual, a few of which we’ll cover here.

Osburn recommends frequent cleanings to prevent accumulation of ash, soot, and creosote. You should not use abrasive cleaner, and only clean the stove when it is cold. You can repaint your stove if it gets scratched or otherwise damaged. You will need to use 650 degree celsius paint for the job.

Don’t attempt to use to stove if the glass is broken. Osburn advised checking frequently for cracks in the glass. If you find a crack, turn the stove off. Osburn also cautions against building a fire too close to the glass. There are directions for replacing the glass if it breaks, and a specific glass needed for the replacement, which you would get through your EPA Osburn dealer.

Using an Osburn gasket, the company recommends changing the door gasket yearly.

Ashes should be removed when they are two to three inches deep, and put into a metal container with a tight lid, away from combustible materials. Empty the stove when the stove is cold. Osburn recommends the morning as a good time.
