Natures Comfort NCB-G Wood Furnaces

Natures Comfort NCB-G Wood Furnace Overview

The Nature's Comfort NCB-G Series is an outdoor wood boiler (sold for commercial uses only) with an efficiency of over 78%. It is available in three models — the NCB-275G, NCB-325G and NCB-400G.

The "G" in the model indicates that these are gasification models.

The number of each model relates to water capacity — the NCB-275G has a 275-gallon water capacity, etc. The NCB-G has a heat output ranging from up to 8,000 square feet to up to 12,000 square feet, with a heating capacity of up to 500,000 BTU.

It has an updraft gasification design which provides boost air for cleaner burning. It features a 1/4-inch thick firebox, a 6-inch chimney, a solar 16LED motion light, and a built-in ash pan for easy cleaning. It has easy to operate controls with a pump, blower and aquastat, and the unit is designed to enable idling for summer use. The unit is protected from corrosion by a powder coat finish. 2015 prices for the NCB-G Series start at $7,880, with financing available.

Very satisfied with this unit. I would recommend this or any Natures Comfort product to anyone. Very easy to operate and not all the bells and whistles that other manufacturers offer.

"Excellent OWB with high tech manufacturing and scientific design and testing."

I put a natures comfort 275g on line at my house this spring. I researched them all and chose Nature's Comfort for numerous reasons. Number 1 is the integrity of the company and it's ownership. Then the design and testing they do is as good as or better than most. I am from Missouri, the "Show Me" state. So, if you are like me make the trip to Shipshewana, in and meet some the proud people who build NCBs and see the robotic welder and the scientific testing and proving they are doing. I am a perfectionist engineer and I am impressed. From what I have seen over the years most boiler leaks are at the joints/welds. The process ncb uses makes as perfect and consistent a weld as possible. Look like a caulk joint with perfectly consistent penetration. Even with the computer modeled flow design these unit are remarkably simple. The simple components on the unit are all readily available at any hvac equipment supplier. Same stats and pumps, technology that has been on boilers for 100yrs. To be fair though, if you want proprietary computerized boards and digital read outs you should look at some of the others. And be ready to pay about $3,000 – $5,000 more. So far we have just heated the swimming pool this summer (already saved about $500 in gas). I will report back after we have heated the house and hot water for awhile. One other thing do not believe anyone who says you can get 24 or 36 hour burn times in a Midwestern winter. Or burn green wood. Or heat average home on 3 to 4 cords a year. It just simply take more energy than that. Best wishes with your owb. It is great fun to have one!

"Bad investment, Horrible Customer Service"

Had the nc 325g installed in May of 2011. It has been a nightmare ever since! The owner, Dave, sized our unit over the phone with his salesman who was here and swore that the 325 would take care of the house, the work garage, the small workshop garage, and heat the water in the house, and that we would have a 24 to 36 hour burn time. Not true! We requested a 500 gallon boiler, Dave swore the 325 unit was oversized and it would work fine. It doesn't and Dave could care less! We have children in this house including a 2 year old grandbaby. Dave came out and inspected our install and said that it was good. We also had a central boiler installer come out to inspect it and he told us we had a good install and that he felt that the boiler was too small. Because Nature's Comfort has refused to help us with any of these issues, we had Central Boiler come out to help us. After paying Central Boiler, and investing another 3000.00 in the system, it works better, but the burn times range from 5 to 8 hours. It is supposed to have a warranty but Dave won't call you back! We had to add a pump and use the hot water tank as a reservoir because we ran out of hot water (not even enough to bathe a toddler in) any time we used it. We had to disconnect the small garage and start using coal in it. The burn time is only 5 hours compared to the 24 to 36 we were promised. We had to replace all 3 pumps, (house pump, garage supply pump, and the floor heat circulating pump for the garage) We have been calling Dave ("the owner") for months and he says that he will call you back and never calls us back. All he cares about is getting paid, once he gets his money, he doesn't care if your system works right or not. We had to take out a home equity loan for this. STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE!

Other NCB-G Reviews

Based on comments on HVAC forums, the NCB-G is considered to be a good wood boiler. There is a post on from a homeowner who was thinking about buying an old NCB 325 model but was advised that the NCB-325G is much better, primarily because it is easier to load. In another post on the site, a homeowner asked for comparisons between an NCB-325G unit and a comparible Central Boiler model. There were many comparisons of specifications, but the majority of responders seemed to prefer the NCB-G unit.
