The Maytag PGC2TC is a two-stage, variable speed, Energy Star rated gas furnace with a 95.1% AFUE. The variable speed blower and insulated blower compartment help provide quiet operation. The unit is built with iSEER technology, increasing the efficiency of a 13- or 14-SEER air conditioner or heat pump by up to an additional SEER point. The PGC2TC features a 30-second blower delay to provide a warm duct temperature at start up. It has a heavy gauge aluminized steel heat exchanger and a stainless steel secondary heat exchanger, with a 30-second post purge to extend the life of the heat exchanger. The PGC2TC may be vertically or horizontally vented using either a one-pipe or a two-pipe system.
It might be too late to help some of the writers. We also had trouble with flooding of the unit. Turns out the installers had forgotten to put a drain in. Now have a drain as well as a condensation pump. I saw one user had noise like a train. Same here. I complained for 3 years and it was suggested that it was running how it was supposed to. It turned out, after it quit completely, that the fan motor bearings were gone and were likely in poor shape at the outset. It’s fairly quiet now. The latest problem is the furnace door safety switch is gone. I’m waiting for Christmas to be over to get the part. In the past 50 years, my experience is that furnaces run for 20-plus years with no problems. It seems that now there are frequent service issues almost immediately and they are more complex to repair.
"Maytag installed in 2008 running great!"
I am a distributor of Maytag equipment and thought it would be a good idea to have this new model installed in my home in 2008. The unit has performed great, with no breakdowns or repairs needed, and is very quiet while operating. Great design and a 12-year warranty. Nice work.
"2-stage variable speed gas furnace"
I just replaced my Carrier central electric system with a new Maytag 18/19 SEER iQ Drive dual fuel system. The system is saving me almost half in my electric bill and I can’t wait to see the savings coming this winter with my new 2-stage variable speed gas furnace.
"Failure of A/C and installer"
The evaporator coil failed after 18 months. I figured that it was covered by the “great” warranty but only parts, labor was extra. The installer, Authorized Heating and Air Conditioning, charged me $350 to charge the system to determine the leak then wanted another $750 to fix it. In my opinion, this unit should not have failed and Authorized should have done the work for cost. There is no information on how to contact Maytag from their website and since the installer is not particularly interested in doing the work, I was on my own. I would NEVER buy a Maytag anything (there are large problems with those nice looking washers/dryers too) and I have found an installer that I feel won’t be cheating me.
Had furnace installed and it lowered my bill by half. It is quiet and efficient.
The PGC2TC is covered by a 12-year all-parts warranty, and a 12-year Dependability Promise to replace the entire unit if the heat exchanger fails. Product registration is required for maximum warranty coverage. When registered, the product is upgraded to a limited lifetime heat exchanger warranty.
