Maytag Manufacturer Overview

Maytag heat pumps, furnaces and central air conditioners and cooling products are manufactured primarily under license by Nortek Global HVAC, which also manufactures HVAC equipment under the brand names Frigidaire, Intertherm, Westinghouse and Tappan, among others. Other companies, including Airwell-Fedders, also manufacture products for the Maytag name.

Maytag markets kitchen appliances as well as several room air conditioners. Maytag is a subsidiary of the Whirlpool Corporation, which had revenue of $21.3 billion in 2017.

Corporate History

Founded in 1893 by F.L. Maytag in Newton, Iowa, Maytag began as a farm implement company. Throughout the 20th century and into the 21st, Maytag evolved into a major appliance enterprise and acquired several other companies, including Jenn-Air (1982) and Amana (2001). In 1986, Maytag became the Maytag Corp. In 1997, Maytag became an Energy Star manufacturing partner. In 2006, Whirlpool Corp. acquired Maytag Corp.

Product Lines

Maytag’s central air conditioners are sold in a variety of efficiencies from 13 to 25.5 SEER. Similarly, Maytag heat pumps range in efficiency from 13 to 22 SEER. Maytag furnaces range in efficiency from 80 to 97 percent AFUE.

Maytag’s HVAC products today boast a number of “green” features, such as the iQ drive, which constantly self-modulates to keep energy use low; the iSEER, which boosts a unit’s SEER by one point; the iHybrid, which alternates between electric and gas use as the temperature changes; and the ecoLogic, which meets Energy Star qualifications while cutting back on nitrous oxide emissions.

Warranties on Maytag HVAC equipment require registration within 60 days of installation to receive the full benefits. While term details vary by model, a 12-year parts warranty is standard.
