"Noisy and shakes house"

Every 30 minutes this unit emits a grunt that you can hear and feel two floors above. Yes, it looks nice on the wall. Presumably it uses less gas. But it is loud and we've had people here twice to fix it and it goes away for a day then comes back. I suggest staying away.

"Complete hunk of junk. Do not waste your money."

Installed in August of 2010, nothing but problems. The factory blamed it on improper installation. In November of 2010, a factory technician came to my home and replaced a sensor he stated was defective. He inspected the installation, said everything was correct and off he went. Boiler ran for four days then locked out again. These boilers are rubbish. My first HVAC guy quit because he told me point blank they are known to be nothing but problems. The second guy tells me he loves them because he makes a fortune off of fixing them. He's been to my home 4-5 times a year and calls them "Lockinout" boilers. It is January of 2016, and seriously, I could have paid for a new boiler in what I have spent on tech calls. I will be replacing my Lochinvar Knight boiler this year no matter what. Do not buy one of these! You have been warned.

I have had this boiler for about a year and it has been the best investment for our home in years. We replaced our Weil-McClain cast iron boiler from the 70's with a WHN-110. We have experienced several low temperatures of 5-10 degrees and the boiler does what it needs to do at a really high efficiency rate. It is super quiet; you can barely hear it. Our house, 1800 square feet, has 2 zones – one with large antique radiators covering about 1200 square feet, and the second zone covering the other 600 square feet with copper baseboards. I researched for over 2 years what I was going to do and decided the best system for my home was the WHN-110. Once I decided it was the one, I was looked over reviews and saw a lot of mixed opinions. I truly believe half or more of the negative opinions were related more to the installation and not the product. First, I never saw anywhere that any high efficiency boiler requires a low loss header; this is what makes these type of boilers work the way they are supposed to. It's imperative to have one installed in your piping. Another highly suggested item is a Y-Strainer to keep any sediment from entering the system. Make sure to go to angieslist.com and hire a truly qualified tech do the job, not just a plain old plumber. I saved $2,000 in the boiler and installation because of the rebates that were offered by my gas company, so make sure to look for those. And finally, always familiarize yourself with the installation and owner's manual to be sure that the installer is really doing the job they are supposed to do.

"WHN wall mount response"

The WHN boiler has been a very good performer for us. We installed two of the earliest units of this model and have installed many of them. Some of the problems you all have noted are very possibly a setup problem on the control. As far as taking so long to heat up, there is a boost function in the control for people who like to set back their heat at night. This does not work on radiant floors. Due to the limits of temperature on flooring, if you boost the temperature you could damage the flooring. If you have radiators or fin tube, etc., the boost function works great. As far as other problems, honestly, it mostly has to do with piping or control issues. Out of all the boilers we have installed, we have had very few repairs on the Lochinvar WHN. There are some good tech people at Lochinvar that your contractor should talk to if there are ongoing problems. I really do find, when it is an ongoing problem, that we all need to talk to tech support, and they do know if some common denominator is showing up in the service calls they receive. Quite helpful.

Had to replace the motherboard at $1000 after only 2 years. System cost $10000 installed, by reputable heating/cooling company in Massachusetts. It takes hours to heat the house to 68 degrees in the morning from 64 degrees at night. We have an automatic thermostat that turns on the system at 6 AM, and by 7 AM the house is still 64-65 degrees. Very frustrating to pay so much for such a lousy system.
