The Lennox 13hpd heat pump is considered an economical residential split-system heat pump in the company’s Merit series. Rated at 13 SEER and 7.7 HSPF, the 13hpd has earned the Good Housekeeping Seal and the Energy Star label, provided matching coil components are used as part of the split-system heat pump Energy Star criteria. This heat pump employs a high efficiency Copeland scroll compressor to help control air temperature, and the unit’s dual-fuel capacity allows the unit to be coupled with a gas furnace for increased energy savings. These components, along with the outdoor coil, ensure reliable heat transfer with low air resistance. The 13hpd heat pump is manufactured with a durable direct drive outdoor fan with a PSC fan motor for quiet operation.
The coil guard is constructed with steel wire intended to further increase its durability. Also, the heavy-gauge galvanized steel construction of the cabinet provides resistance to corrosion.
Diagnostics for the 13hpd heat pump’s defrost system use two LEDS located on the defrost board. These LEDs flash specific sequences indicating the problem for the service technician.
Same issues as all the other reviews. Moved into new house in 2007. Had to have repaired a couple years ago and now the compressor needs replaces. Expect a lot longer lifetime than 7 years.

"Sorry Lennox"

Very Satisfied
Unit has been serviced several times in the past 5 years for different reasons. Moved into my new home in April 2007. In October 2013, my unit is dead because of bad compressor. Service guy said compressor is out of warranty. I think I'm going to try a Ruud.

I had two Lennox heat pumps on my new house. One for the main floor and basement, one for the upstairs. Both had multiple repairs within the first few years and now the compressor just went out on one. They won't stand behind their products. Dumping Lennox for a more reliable brand.

Do not buy a lennox heat pump…they are crap!! I had to replace a compressor which was out of warranty by a few months and lennox would do absolutely nothing about it! They don't need a customer service department becasue they don't care about customer service!! $2,000 out of my pocket, I'll never buy another lennox product and hope you don't either!!

"NEVER BUY A LENNOX!!!!!"

Very Unsatisfied
I purchased a home built in 2006 and in 2007, a brand new home. The moment we moved in, we started having problems with our Lennox 13hpd Series. In January of '09, we had to have the sensor board replaced, part under warranty but had to pay labor. Then, in March of the same year, we had to have the compressor replaced and defrost sensor once again parts covered not labor. Now, it is January 2010, the compressor motor had to be replaced again and of course had to pay labor. The warranty is for five years. At this rate, we are replacing the compressor twice a year and will soon run out of warranty! Would never buy another Lennox.
Comments from HVAC forum participants have been slightly unfavorable of the Lennox 13hpd heat pump. Homeowners have expressed difficulty with warranty coverage, which may or may not have been complicated by the service company they hired. Additionally, homeowners reported trouble with the unit’s functioning in times of extreme hot or cold temperatures. For example, a consumer on consumeraffairs.com wrote in to say that he had to replace a condenser fan in this unit within three years of installation, then again after five years.
