The Lennox EL296V is a variable-speed, two-stage gas furnace with an efficiency rating of 96% AFUE. The EL296V is Energy Star certified and can be paired with a Lennox heat pump in an energy-saving dual-fuel system. The unit is iComfort-compatible, allowing it to be paired with an iComfort thermostat. It has a Duralok Plus heat exchanger, made of patented ArmorTuf steel, and a stainless steel secondary heat exchanger. The variable-speed motor provides a consistent flow of air for optimal comfort and efficiency, and a SureLight ignitor increases product life and reliability. The unit’s steel cabinet has a textured paint finish and is insulated to reduce heat loss and operating sound levels.
You will sometimes see the names EL296V and the EL296UHV used interchangeably. Basically, the “V” in the name refers to a variable speed blower motor. The “UH” refers to the unit’s ability to be configured in either an upflow or a horizontal position.
My 16 month old furnace quit at 5:20 am with a service code 225. The tech who came 7 hours later said it was really a circuit board failure which is very common to the 2014 and 2015 models. The temp is -6 and there are no circuit boards in the greater Kansas City area. Today is Sunday so it can’t even be ordered until tomorrow with no guarantee I’ll get it by Tuesday. Even though parts are supposedly covered for 10 years, this part isn’t and it’s $300 plus the service call. I’d love for an attorney to file a class action suit. The family whose appointment was just before mine today has a 2 month old infant and is in the same situation. The faulty circuit boards should be replaced at no cost since the issue is pervasive with this model as well as the top of the line version. The $12250 hvac unit was routine serviced this past May. Service from Neal Harris Plumbing is lousy as I had to make multiple calls just to get the service plan I paid for and then to get a tech for this issue today. The circuit board issue is longstanding but they didn’t even have one board in their local service center.
I’ve had a Lennox Elite series furnace for the past 18 years and was satisfied with its performance. Recently the inducer kept running and would not shut off without a new circuit board. I felt the cost to repair an 18 year old furnace wasn’t worth it and purchased a new Lennox EL296V furnace. The cost to install this furnace was $6100. I think this price might be high, but I really have no similar yardstick to compare it to. Just passing this information along for anyone else so that they can compare my price with their estimate. Hope it helps.

"A flawlessly operating machine"
I love my furnace. It works perfectly and has for years. I have owned my Elite furnace for 10 years. It uses 2/3 electrical usage of a normal furnace. This is great. it has two stages of heating which minimizes temperature swings. This allows me to save on energy bills while maintaining comfort. It’s ultra low continuous fan speed provides a quiet and consistent flow of air into the home. It meets U.S. Federal guidelines for energy efficiency. It is a compact furnace so it is small in size. I don’t like how much it cost me. I haven’t found that the ultra low speed fan has put out too little air but i have heard from others that they had a problem with this. it has worked perfectly for me. I have a small house so perhaps this is the reason. But I had to buy a new one so I had to invest. I have never had to repair or replace it. I would buy this brand again and recommend it to everyone.

This unit is very quiet. When the fan is in continuous mode I.E. just circulating air, the furnace is nearly impossible to hear. I like the 2 stage heating and variable fan concept. This furnace works great, but we also went with this brand because, the contractor has great service.

Other EL296V Reviews
A homeowner posted on hvac-talk.com that his new EL296V will not keep up with the thermostat settings and doesn’t heat as well as his old 80% AFUE unit. A homeowner on dslreports.com asked for opinions on whether he should purchase an EL296V or a similar Bryant unit. Comments regarding the EL296V were all positive, but the homeowner ended up purchasing the Bryant because it could be installed sooner.
