Lennox GWB8-E Boilers

Lennox GWB8-E Boiler Overview

The Lennox GWB8-E is a gas-fired boiler with an efficiency of up to 83.9% AFUE. It is available in nine sizes and is shipped for use with natural gas but easily converted to LP gas. It features a cast iron heat exchanger and stainless steel burners for long-lasting durability and resistance to corrosion. An electronic ignition control improves efficiency by turning on the burners only when needed, and the unit’s vent damper maintains efficiency by automatically closing when the boiler turns off. The GWB8-E has a thick layer of fiberglass insulation which increases the unit’s efficiency by reducing heat loss.

Lennox GWB8-E Boiler Reviews

"Lennox Boiler Review"

We purchased this boiler in December 2014 because our old boiler went out (it was 38 years old). It was in the house when we purchased it 2.5 years ago. This unit seemed to be a fine replacement without all the bells and whistles. I like that when we had a cold snap a few weeks ago this new unit was able to keep the house warm. Seems to be working very well. I also like that it came with a great 10 year warranty, if anything goes wrong, it will be taken care of under warranty. I like that it's conserving energy. The only thing I dislike is nothing to do with the boiler, but the literature that came with it was difficult to understand. It's still new, so we haven't needed any repairs on it just yet (hopefully won't for awhile). I would definitely refer this product to a friend. Works very well for us, and I would buy again.

"Review of Lennox Boiler"

3.0 rating

I have owned my boiler since I bought my current home 1.5 years ago. The boiler came with the property, so I am not entirely sure of the exact age of the product. At first I liked how it used propane rather than other energy sources since it would, in theory, work if there was no electricity. Although this is what I have begun to dislike, since propane is not as cheap as I had originally calculated. I have not had to replace it thus far, although the temperature gauge does stick sometimes. I would buy this brand again because of the value and the efficiency. It works well and heats the house. We do not need any supplemental heat since this does just fine for out 1300 square foot home.

"Could have bought a better one."

Very Unsatisfied

I haven't owned this boiler for very long (less than 2 years). I bought it at the recommendation of a friend. What I liked most about it was the price (especially from a company like Lennox). At first, it worked very well. It heated up the house quickly and was very quiet. However, after about three months, the temperature (pressure) gauge stopped working. We had to call four times with four different service calls to get it repaired. Each time it was repaired, it would work for about a week and then stop working again. Finally, they replaced the gauge all together. Then about a year after that, the same gauge failed again. Once again we had to have it replaced. I don't think I would recommend this model to a friend or buy a Lennox again. It should not have broken down on us so quickly after purchase. Honestly, I expected a bit better out of a Lennox product.

"Solid, fairly efficient boiler"

I bought this house in October 2013 and it had this boiler already installed, apparently circa 2012. The boiler has worked very well for us — it is quiet, it keeps the water consistently warm (approx. 120 deg.) I have one problem with the overall system but I suspect it is because of the piping and radiators, not the boiler — I can hear that there is air in the water lines. I've read up a bit on how to get the water out of the lines and it appears there are two ways, and frankly neither way seems to involve the boiler itself. The only repairs I've had to call for on the whole system were to replace zone valves, never any work required (so far) on the boiler itself. Overall I'm very happy with the boiler itself and with the radiant heat in general. I have always had forced air in my home before, so this is a new experience. I would recommend this boiler to a friend if they already have radiant heat in their home. However I would not recommend a friend with forced air switch to a boiler (this or any other) because radiant heat does not allow for central cooling in the home very easily.

Other GWB8-E Reviews

Among the very few online reviews of the GWB8-E is one on doityourself.com from a homeowner who thought he might need a new boiler because a pipe coming out of the side of his GWB8-E was heavily rusted. He was advised that the problem was caused by a poor installation and the pipe could be replaced without replacing the boiler.
