The Lennox XC21 air conditioner is part of the Dave Lennox Signature Collection. It is Energy Star qualified and bears the Good Housekeeping seal of approval. It is rated for up to 20.5 SEER, which the Lennox company says can save up to $1500 in utility bills in five years when compared to a 10.0 SEER air conditioning unit. Buyers of the XC21 may qualify for a federal tax credit. The unit is equipped with a low-sound fan and a two-stage scroll compressor, which Lennox says is on a low setting the majority of the time, reducing power usage.
"Had to change my HVAC in the dark, at least now i know."
It has been about a year since I had to change my HVAC system. I went for the Lennox brand since, after a long consideration of other brands, I decided to stick with the one i had before. Even though it needed changing, it had been reliable for a long time. I do not like the price, but if I was going to go for a big upfront expense I thought it to be more justifiable to take it as an investment into this newer unit, which is solar ready, for it would save me a few bucks in my electric bill every month. I would recommend this to friends and family, but they do need to review their own needs and see what fits best for them. The things I like the most about the unit are that it seems to keep the house at a nice temperature, and at a steady rate, and there are no noticeable highs or lows. Also, I love how quiet it is and that it is efficient enough to represent some savings from the older model I used to have.

"The worst system ever"
I had a Lennox XC21-048 system installed 10 years and 2 weeks ago. This system had a 10-year compressor warranty. Well, guess what – the compressor failed! The company wanted a huge amount to replace it. I personally called Lennox and all they could say was we're sorry! I felt like I was in a South Park episode. Anyway, they wanted me to put a Lennox back in. That was a no. I hope you're reading this and take my advice. Use any other brand. After looking on here I wish I knew this 10 years ago. God Bless Have a great day Bill Setter
"Installed the XC21 this past spring"
I had the XC21-048 installed this past Spring and find it to be very quiet, but the dealer sold it to me as being rated at 21 SEER. I now find that the Lennox site only rates this unit as being rated at 18 SEER. What is my recourse to get what I paid for?
Replaced a 5 ton a/c system, found out my 21 seer unit (Quoted) was only a 16 seer unit. After zoning and the 2 stages were not working properly, found out that the blower on the furnace was inadequate causing the system to become a 13 seer unit. The Lennox certified dealer installed a relay to bypass the internal system to make all the equipment work at the 13 seer level. It works fine as a single stage 13 seer system, but that is not what I paid for. Buyer beware.
Not a good product. Way too many service calls that you have to pay for not to mention all the days it is down
Online posters have mostly positive things to say about the XC21, especially its high SEER. However, one poster in this online forum thread says the unit was not as efficient as he had hoped. Other posters attribute this to the model being a large one.
One poster in this thread says the XC21 appears to be a good value for its high SEER rating.
