The Lennox XC21 air conditioner is part of the Dave Lennox Signature Collection. It is Energy Star qualified and bears the Good Housekeeping seal of approval. It is rated for up to 20.5 SEER, which the Lennox company says can save up to $1500 in utility bills in five years when compared to a 10.0 SEER air conditioning unit. Buyers of the XC21 may qualify for a federal tax credit. The unit is equipped with a low-sound fan and a two-stage scroll compressor, which Lennox says is on a low setting the majority of the time, reducing power usage.
Bought a 5 ton Lennox a/c in October 2013. Have had to replace the compressor, the outside coils, the inside evaporator coils and the inside fan. I've had numerous service calls do to leaks. After 4 years the inside of the fan cabinet is rusting badly. Do not buy Lennox products, absolute junk.

We have had this unit for two years. Within these two years we have had the coil replaced twice and the mother board and thermostat replaced once. The parts are guaranteed for ten years but the labor isn't cheap. So far we are looking at a $2,000 investment on labor charges per year. Really!

We paid a lot of money for this system that wakes us up on startup.

I have the Lennox XC21 central air conditioner. I bought it based on a recommendation from a friend. They have purchased from Lennox before and have told me that they've only had minor repair issues, compared to other companies and their products. What I love about this product is that it's Energy Star certified. It has an efficiency score that is top notch. I've already noticed my utility bill has decreased. The features offered are so helpful. It has a dehumidify feature which comes in really handy when I have a lot of guests over at the house, so people don't get too uncomfortable. Another great feature is it recirculates. Of course, it has the standard multi speed options. Even the low speed is pretty powerful. But. when I want a quick blast of cooling off, the high speed sure does come in handy. Some might think the price is a bit about the norm, but the quality is so superb, it is worth spending the extra amount. The quality surpasses the air conditioning units that I've had in the past by far. Another great thing is how quiet it is. Sometimes I even forget that it's on. It's so peaceful and gets the job done when you need it done. If i'm working in the yard and I need to cool off quick, I know I can depend on the Lennox XC21 to give me what I need.

We paid as much as the cost of a new car, and within the first year, the TXV (Thermostatic Expansion Valve) had to be replaced, not once, not twice, but three times. Each time, with the system down for days. Also within the first year, the compressor broke – completely stopped functioning. After it was replaced the system has never cooled as effectively as it did with the original. We have had a horrible ordeal with our HVAC replacement. The salesperson lied about the age of our ducts, he claimed they were 4 or 5 years old, when upon closer inspection they had 1998 stickers on them. (16 years old, the originals, and had to be replaced after the new HVAC had already been sold to us and installed). The company that sold us our unit tried very hard to make things work well, but it just isn't a good unit. They came out so many times, changed things so many times. After a year we just gave up and left it as it is. 2 last complaints: 1) Because the AC became so ineffective, the company changed our fan settings to always be on the high speed – so there's no energy savings from low to high speed fan. 2) Any claims that it is as quiet as a refrigerator are outright bogus. It is just as loud as a low cost AC unit. The outside unit sits on a flimsy piece of fiberglass that looks like a fake piece of concrete, and its fan seems very poorly balanced. I will never buy a Lennox product again. I've heard good things about Carrier and what I saw on a Home Depot model unit was metal fans, metal housings, not this plastic [email protected]$% like on my Lennox unit.
Online posters have mostly positive things to say about the XC21, especially its high SEER. However, one poster in this online forum thread says the unit was not as efficient as he had hoped. Other posters attribute this to the model being a large one.
One poster in this thread says the XC21 appears to be a good value for its high SEER rating.
