The Lennox XC17 is a discontinued single-stage central air conditioner with an efficiency rating of up to 18.00 SEER. A SilentComfort fan grille, outdoor fan motor with composite fan blades, and scroll compressor with SilentComfort technology helped keep sound levels as low as 62 dB. iComfort-enabled technology allowed the XC17 to exchange information with other system components and make adjustments to provide optimal performance and efficiency. The unit featured a SunSource solar-ready option that allowed it to be used as part of a solar-powered system.
An xc17 was installed on June 30, 2010. Within twenty minutes of starting, the compressor shut down due to overheating (It is enclosed in a metal shroud for noise suppresion.) The installers removed the shroud and hosed down the bare compressor and finally got it going. The shroud was reinstalled. On July 25, 2010, the compressor stopped again. Both inlet and outlet coolant lines are outside temperature (no cooling – no compressor) but the fan on the outside unit is running. I have a call into the installation company who has been reliable in the past. We shall see. Update will be available soon.
Comparisons of the XC17 with similar units by other manufacturers, including Trane and Carrier, on hvac-talk.com and gardenweb.com find most reviewers evenly divided. There are several comments praising the quiet operation of the XC17, but a couple of reviewers also mention that they prefer two-stage equipment over the single-stage.
Product registration is required within 60 days of installation for maximum warranty coverage. The warranty for the Lennox XC17 air conditioner is comprised of the following:
