The Lennox XC17 is a discontinued single-stage central air conditioner with an efficiency rating of up to 18.00 SEER. A SilentComfort fan grille, outdoor fan motor with composite fan blades, and scroll compressor with SilentComfort technology helped keep sound levels as low as 62 dB. iComfort-enabled technology allowed the XC17 to exchange information with other system components and make adjustments to provide optimal performance and efficiency. The unit featured a SunSource solar-ready option that allowed it to be used as part of a solar-powered system.
Less than 5 years after paying over $24,000 for two Lennox air conditioning units, the evaporator coil corroded- a common problem with Lenox ac units. Lennox replaced the part but I am stuck paying for labor. When I called Lennox, they told me that they believe their evaporator coils are deteriorating because of "all of the cleaning chemicals in the household." So, if you vacuum your carpets twice a month and use mild soap and water to clean your bathroom once a month, I suggest going with a brand that can withstand the chemicals.

I have had my Lennox XC17 for a few years after our old air conditioner broke down. A friend of mine recommended it and said that once he got his installed his electric bill went down and ours did the same. It keeps the whole house cool and does it's job pretty quick. So far I have had nothing to complain about at all but we have only put it through a couple summers so it is still relatively new. I was surprised that the decrease in our electric bill would be as much as it was and that was certainly a pleasant surprise. I would absolutely recommend this to a friend in the same way that it was recommended to me. He has had his longer than we have and to the best of my knowledge he hasn't had to do any repairs on his yet either. It works very well.

"Evap Coil Leaks < 5 years old"

Somewhat Unsatisfied
I had new Lennox furnaces and air conditioners installed in my house in August 2010. I bought what I thought was a very reliable system; however, this week the evaporator coil on my 3 ton unit was found leaking and needed repair. Of course the evaporator coil unit was covered but the dryer and Freon was not and neither were the repairs to remove and replace the evaporator coil. I spent $917 for labor and Freon. I used to get about 15 years on other brands when I lived in Phoenix; now, in Las Cruces, these new Lennox units are not very durable. Oil was discovered leaking from the coil by the technician. This product has lowered my cooling bill over the last four years but, again, I was hoping to get at least ten years before stuff began to crap out.

"I love my dual-zone AC unit!"

Very Satisfied
My Lennox AC unit came with the house I purchased in 2004, and I love it. I have a dual-zone system, and the AC keeps the house cool through every Texas summer without breaking the bank. The only drawback is that the outside unit is surprisingly loud. Hopefully, my AC will never fail – I've never had to repair it. If it ever fails, I'll certainly buy the same model again.

"Love our Lennox"

Very Satisfied
We installed our new Lennox xc-17 last summer to replace a 20 year old beast. It has been quiet, saved us considerable amounts of money and has given us no problems. I would guess that most of the complaints on here are improper installation not equipment issues. I don't know if I can name names, but Zack, the local Lennox dealer knows his stuff!
Comparisons of the XC17 with similar units by other manufacturers, including Trane and Carrier, on hvac-talk.com and gardenweb.com find most reviewers evenly divided. There are several comments praising the quiet operation of the XC17, but a couple of reviewers also mention that they prefer two-stage equipment over the single-stage.
