One of the oldest HVAC manufacturers in the country, Lennox sells products to control your home’s temperature, from air conditioners and thermostats to air purifiers and heat pumps. Like many established companies, Lennox has managed customer complaints, and it has even settled a lawsuit over defective evaporator coils. Read reviews of Lennox’s specific units and models before purchasing.
In 1895, Dave Lennox patented and sold his first riveted-steel furnace. In 1952, Lennox introduced residential central air-conditioning systems. Since 1955, the company has been manufacturing and selling furnaces, air conditioning units, heat pumps, and agricultural equipment. The company is based just outside Dallas, in Richardson, Texas.
Lennox Product Lines
Lennox has three product lines. Units in each line can be purchased individually or together to build a home’s entire climate system.
Lennox Air Conditioners
Among the quietest on the market, Lennox air conditioners are sold in three product lines from most to least expensive: the Dave Lennox Signature® Collection, the Elite® Series, and the Merit® series.
Units in the Dave Lennox Signature® Collection can modify cooling based on climate. The XC21 model, for example, features SunSource® technology, which means that when paired with solar roof modules, it can run on solar power.
The top model in the Elite® Series, the XC20, has variable capacity, so it can adjust cooling output to match comfort and energy use. This model is particularly helpful in controlling humidity. Even the Elite® Series’ cheapest model, the XC13, features a precision-balanced, direct-drive fan to reduce sound and a scroll compressor for reliable performance.
Units in Lennox’s Merit® Series may not have all the bells and whistles of solar power, but they still save homeowners money on cooling costs when compared to the national average, and they feature a multi-stage operation to help with humidity.
Lennox also sells energy-efficient gas furnaces in the same product line: the Dave Lennox Signature® Collection, Elite®, and Merit®. All of Lennox’s products are Energy Star® rated, and all evidently save you money on heating bills when compared to the national average.
The SL280NV, Lennox’s top-of-the-line furnace model, has a variable speed motor to maintain consistent temperatures while using little fuel. It produces 65% lower NOx emissions than standard low-NOx furnaces, making it better for the environment.
The Elite® Series model EL296V also has variable speed technology, creating heat at two levels to find a balance between warmth and energy use. Additionally, its motor can increase the efficiency of a paired outdoor A/C unit in the summer.
With its two-stage heating feature, the Merit® Series model ML296V can adjust its own flame size and control temperature swings. Even Lennox’s most inexpensive models offer cost savings and comfort.

Lennox Heat Pumps
Lennox sells heat pumps with either two- or single-stage systems. Some, like the Elite® Series XP20, possess true variable capacity, while the XP21 boasts quietness and efficiency. All models reportedly save you money on heating bills, and the XP25 has industry-leading efficiency ratings of up to 23.50 SEER.
Lennox Packaged Systems
Lennox sells five packaged units: two gas/electric units, two heat pumps, and one air conditioner. To be installed outside, these systems combine heating and cooling in one unit. They have low profiles to blend into your yard, and you can buy a Healthy Climate® air purification accessory for the LRP16GE and LRP16HP units to purify indoor air.

Most of Lennox’s products are Energy Star® certified. These high-efficiency systems seemingly save customers so much money that Lennox features an energy savings calculator online. Some models have Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratings (SEER) up to 25.00 (for comparison, the minimum standard for air conditioners is 15.00 SEER efficiency). Lennox’s SLP98V is apparently the most efficient and quietest furnace on the market.
