Lear-Siegler Manufacturer Overview
Lear Siegler Inc. (LSI) produced furnaces for mobiles homes. Lear Siegler sold its Miller Heating and Air Conditioning brand to Nortek and no longer produces HVAC equipment. Miller Heating and Cooling is now a subsidiary of Nortek. Nortek Global HVAC had revenue of approximately $642 million in 2017.
Corporate History
LSI came about in the 1960s when Siegler Heating Co., founded in 1950, merged with Lear Inc., an aerospace electronics firm. Although the resulting Lear Siegler Inc. was best known for its aerospace products, it held a variety of other divisions, including HVAC. After the company acquired Holland, Mich.-based Home Furnace Co. in 1967, it began selling products under the HOME Division name.
In 1986, Nortek Inc. acquired LSI’s HOME Division, and began selling these products under the name of Miller Heating and Air Conditioning. According to Nortek, the merger of the Miller and Intertherm divisions led to the founding of Nordyne. Nordyne is itself the parent company to several household brands including Broan, Maytag and Westinghouse.
Product Lines
LSI manufactured several models of gas and propane firing furnaces for mobile homes. All MMG, MGC and AGC model furnaces sold between 1962 and 1979 were recalled due to faulty vent caps that lead to a carbon monoxide threat for homeowners. This design was sold for use as a replacement appliance.
Although LSI is out of the marketplace, Miller Heating and Air Conditioning continues to offer HVAC equipment for mobile homes. The company’s product line includes 13, 14 and 16 SEER air conditioners and heat pumps available as split-systems or packaged units. Matching electric, gas or oil-burning furnaces are also available. All products meet HUD requirements.
