Reviews by Furnace Series

PG PGB

PG Series

Janitrol’s PG series consisted of five models ranging from 2- to 5-ton units. All models offered 78 percent AFUE with heating capacities as high as 140,000 BTU/H. Interior components include a sealed compressor with an internal relief valve, permanently lubricated condenser fan motor and an aluminized steel heat exchanger. Accessories, such as LP gas conversion kits and room thermostats, also were available for this series.

PGX Series

The PGX series is very similar to the PG, with the exception that PGX models meet California NOx emission standards. The two models in the series also reach 78 percent AFUE and have a heating output of up to 140,000 BTU/H. Quiet operation, with a fully insulated cabinet and top condenser discharge, are additional features of both the PG and PGX furnace.

PGB Series

Reaching up to 80 percent AFUE and with heating input ranging from 46,000 to 140,000 BTU/H, the PGB series was Janitrol’s highest efficiency model. This series featured flexible outdoor installation on the ground or rooftop and could be configured in side-by-side or downflow positions. The PGB is equipped with a two-speed blower motor, aluminized heat exchanger and copper tube and aluminum fin coils for efficient heat transfer.

Care and Maintenance

While there is no care guide in Janitrol’s available product literature, Goodman suggests having a service technician inspect the unit every spring. It also is recommended that homeowners perform regular maintenance, such as changing furnace filters every month and checking the area around the outside of the unit for dirt and environmental hazards.

Janitrol Furnace Warranties

While most Janitrol furnaces carry a 5-year limited warranty on parts, warranties may vary depending on the product. The PGB is equipped with a 10-year limited warranty for the heat exchanger and 5-year limited warranty on the compressor.
