The Islandaire EZ Series 42 is a through-the-wall packaged terminal air conditioner (PTAC) designed for new construction or to replace existing Amana, LG, GE, Gree, Trane, and all 42″ x 16″ PTACs. It has a cooling capacity of 7700-15000 Btu and an efficiency of up to 11.9 EER. A permanently lubricated dual motor design allows the indoor motor to run at low speeds, which combines with vibration isolator mounts, an elongated fan and high-density insulation to reduce operation sound levels. The unit may be installed flush with the floor and features service error codes for quick troubleshooting. Stainless steel endplates on indoor and outdoor coils and a powder coat paint finish help protect the unit against corrosion.
We had new guestrooms constructed in our hotel last year. I'm assuming this ptac was chosen by someone who got a kickback because they're horribly loud and are constructed very cheaply – the outer shell is made of easily breakable plastic. We've gotten more complaints from those 9 rooms in the last year than we ever have with our Trane units in our other 250 rooms, and those are 6 years old! We're in the process of getting these pieces of crap switched out. Stay away.
"Do not waist your money or time"
Nothing but issues with these. Units are 2 years old and have had problems from the beginning. Right now the condenser fans are cracking and 1 the fan motor shaft is broke 3 units in the past 2 weeks. They are aware of the fan problem and I was told they are beefing them up. I still have 126 units to look forward to fixing in the future. Should be a recall on this and replacements provided. They are more then willing to take your money instead. Stay away from this company!

I find it puzzling that someone thinks that a PTAC unit is supposed to last a really long time. Your own home A/C does not last a really long time without something failing. No matter who the manufacturer is, if the units are not maintained according to the owners manual, then expect some kind of failure. The whole rant about never, never, never Islandaire is a bit much. As a salesman who promotes their brand to my customers, there are 10 reviews about the EZ Series. I think part of the misconception about how they work is that they are not your cheap throwaway brands. The compressor does turn on and off, the units are actually quiet (design changes made), and maybe you should go back to the contractor who installed it. I do not have any trouble via phone or email with Islandaire employees.

"Islandaire Horrible Experience"
I made the mistake of buying an Islandaire PTAC in 2011, a through-the- wall combination air conditioner and heater, the kind you see in motels and lower price hotels. It never made it one full year without repairs. First it melted itself, then it wouldn't cool. Then the fan shaft assembly broke. I had to threaten to sue them to get them to replace it under warranty. Then the new replacement unit started breaking down right after the warranty expired. I finally bit the bullet and junked it last year and bought a new Amana. This was a very expensive mistake.
